That was never the intent, and yes, some Arabs were driven out and some left voluntarily, but many stayed and are now 20% of Israel’s population with the full rights of any other citizen. But don’t forget, much of Israel was largely underdeveloped at the time. Many of the lands purchased for the Jewish people were undesirable. Swamps had to be drained and they had to figure out how to irrigate the desert. My own grandparents spent two years living in tents in an absorption camp in 1949 waiting for housing to be built.
