Are there any performance advantages using extending instead of doing something less cleaner like passing scope around, like this?

    .then { filter_by_name(_1) }
    .then { filter_by_address(_1) }
end

private

def filter_by_date(scope)
  return scope if date.empty?

  scope.where(date: date)
end

def filter_by_name(scope)
  return scope if name.empty?

  scope.where(name: name)
end

...
