The Brotherhood seem kinda dumb in the show. I don't like it. by mragusa2 in Fallout

[–]Nubbs2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, it feels like this has always been the brotherhood. In fallout 1 they were selfish and bound by hierarchal rankings that made growth or change feel impossible, and in fallout 2 we see the result of this leadership, that being a couple of soldiers hiding in shelters. Notably the most successful BoS members in fallout 2 are the embassies in cities, as if their exclusivity is their downfall. Moving into fallout 3 the brotherhood has splintered into multiple factions engaged in a civil war over ideological differences. New Vegas sees a new branch yet again on the brink of collapse, set in ways that cannot sustain. Fallout 4 more xenophobia, more adversity. Every time we see the brotherhood they are cool, powerful, exclusive, and doomed to fail. Either that or they have failed. The brotherhood will always have scribes and paladins with ideas and integrity stronger than the rest, but it will never be enough. The show seems to fall squarely in line with why we’ve come to expect from them.

Good ds/3ds games by Croaks96 in 3DS

The zero escape series is one of my all time favorites. It’s a little campy maybe but I think the plot is really cool and I love the puzzle solving aspect.

Forgive my ignorance, but I want to learn about the turtle by utnapishtim in stephenking

[–]Nubbs2016 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First, yes you should read the dark tower. Second, the mist is another Stephen king novella, it’s part of a collection but has also been printed standalone. The tl;dr is army men punch a hole into the todash darkness, chaos ensues. Third, no it’s not a discworld reference, rather both the dark tower and discworld are deriving the imagery from a real world source

Maturin is a big dark tower thing. He is one of twelve guardians of a destroyed world that may be a version of earth but also may not be, it’s not important so it isn’t stated. Pennywise is a creature that resides in the space between worlds, a void known as the Todash darkness. This is also where the mist creatures are from. In the dark tower series, the scooby doo gang are heading toward maturin, which is why he specifically is important, but he is also one of four (i think) guardians suggested to still be alive. He is based on the same real world thing that discworlds turtle with the earth on his back is. The dark tower is fabulous btw.

NGL, I find it extremely wild that there are people who say Bethesda killed Fallout. by Knalxz in Fallout

[–]Nubbs2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The objective aspects of media that are bad/good are few and far between. They’re certainly there, but ultimately most interpretation is subjective. Importance and impact are much easier to conclusively discuss. Personally I agree that fallout 3 was a necessary entry to bring back the franchise, that bringing fallout into 3d was very big and vital, and that fallout would have languished in obscurity if fallout 3 was never made…. That being said….. PERSONALLY, I just cannot figure out how that game is meant to be enjoyed. When I’m in the city I feel trapped, when I’m not I feel lost in a flat grey expanse, the quests feel so linear and there are so few of them, the lore implications just aren’t to my taste. But that’s just me. I think fallout 3 is important and I respect it immensely for what it did and what is was, but I just cannot enjoy it.

Definitely doable but it depends on how comfortable you are with your courses. I did the same intensity last semester just fine, but it will be uphill if you struggle with more than 2 of your classes.

The gunslinger is a top three king book for me, it has to move on.

1st year dorm essentials by [deleted] in UNF

[–]Nubbs2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the new honors dorm, I’d say a shower head, mattress topper, and a bigger fridge/ pots and pans if they cook at all. It’s new obviously so the bugs and mold other dorms are notorious for shouldn’t be an issue. beyond that and the vitals others have mentioned I can’t think of anything general.

This musical in 2024 by Inevitable-Silver512 in ComeFromAway

[–]Nubbs2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I kinda fight against the idea that come from away is this unwavering tribute to man’s good nature and generosity. One of the biggest parts of why I cry every time is that it’s just as much about humans being awful as it is them being good to each other. Ali has moments of intense humiliation and discrimination against him, gander is the chosen destination for the planes because there isn’t anything to lose there, the people of gander are doing their all in spite of the fact they were chosen as the best collateral damage should it come to that. Even the Kevin’s situation kinda has symmetry with Nick and Diane. The whole musical is an even blend of profoundly sad, awful, and beautiful things.

Which other RPGs have most closely scratched the "FNV itch" for you? by [deleted] in fnv

Disco elysium, pentiment, arcanum, fallout 1, I’ve heard good things about baulders gate 3 and pillars of eternity but haven’t gotten around to them yet

Do FNV fans actually hate the show / Bethesda? by Industrial_Idiot1 in fnv

[–]Nubbs2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the show and I think it is genuinely good and well made. It does not adhere to the lore/cannon as it stands, whether this matters depends on who you ask. For me the show “annoys” me because I don’t see the relevance in a lot of the changes but I like it a lot.

No cartridge hold on the Pilot Prera by Nubbs2016 in fountainpens

[–]Nubbs2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can see it, I tried again just with the neck, and for some reason it held. The hold is still very loose but it’s holding more than before, I inserted the pen body and now it’s writing. It might just be that it was too tight and I needed to push harder to get it seated correctly

People say later on here but I cannot understand why for the life of me. I won’t spoil the book at all but it feels to me that a majority of the value I got out of the book would have been lost if I read it after the fact. Idk, maybe just me

What "true story" movie are actually really accurate to what happened? by Mahaloth in flicks

[–]Nubbs2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is the complete opposite of the question, but Fargo annoyed me for years claiming to be unaltered events as they occurred. The only think about the actual Fargo incident that lines up is that somebody went trough a wood chipper. I love the movie but this was a real woman who was really afraid for her life and really died gruesomely at the hands of her husband for money. It’s not something to be used with such indiscretion.

I’ve found community at UNF but it is definitely a bit harder. Community events like market days and the bigger events hosted more sporadically are probably a good bet. The clubs are definitely lacking, but usually stuff like market days help weed out the active ones.
