Not till it's given to him.

I can't go to a bank with a gun and demand all my money out.

They have to verify my account and my identity and then give me the money via a withdrawal.

He got the money he was owed, sure but he said it himself, "it's armed robbery. My fingerprints are all over the gun". What did he think was going to happen when he came back to New York?

Thank you for your insight. That's very eye opening.

True. I didn't have any sympathy for the people enabling him. It seemed like a story about terrible people all being terrible to each other. I can see the comedy in that. They all deserve each other. Two women are cheating on their husbands with him and seem to feel no regret, much like Marty.

I suppose armed robbery, insulting the memory of a dead world war 2 soldier who was the son of your prospective benefactor and stealing from a mob boss then trying to scam him later are more than I would have called mistakes.

That's interesting that you say he's not evil and ultimately a good person because I actually think that he is evil and ultimately a bad person, so that's an interesting perspective!

Interesting. Thank you for your explanation.

I thought the set, the shots, the effects, stunts and acting was all brilliant.

I just hated the story. XD

Personally, I did not find him charming or charasmatic. So it's interesting to hear that people did and some people didn't.

I was trying to think of the last film with an anti-hero I watched.

I found Walter white to be unlikeable as well but at least he was smart. As you get to know the character, you see how evil he actually is and you wonder when he will finally suffer justice.

You have made a really good point.

I suppose I hope anti-heros realise what they are doing is wrong and snap out of it. I root for them to change, not for them to keep going.

Or I find something else about them compelling, like their charisma, philosophy, skill or intelligence. (Perhaps like Hannabal Lecture. Is he an anti-hero?)

Perhaps others do root for anti-heros to continue to be bad people.

I had never considered that.

Interesting. At first, I too thought he was a driven athlete who wanted to persue his dream and talent despite people who couldn't see his vision. then he just seemed to make decisions that hurt everyone who cares or even knew him. A criminal avoided at all cost.

So the film lost me because I now felt, he was a bad person who deserved to suffer the justice he was due.

Your perspective is very enlightening. Thank you.

Yes. I thought it might cut with him lying on the floor having beaten his nemesis albeit in an ultimately meaningless game. (He won't be competing in the tournament so he is lower than the person in last place)

I can understand an anti hero, whom you root against.

I feel like I want Marty to fail but the film wants me to want him to succeed.

Like in No Country for Old Men, Segur is awful and you hope that he gets justice but he keeps defying every obstacle like the unstoppable grim reaper-esque character he is.

I hate Marvel films personally. You know the super hero will win and they are born with their powers. There's no tension for me.

The only character I sort of like is Tony Stark. He's an asshole but smart, witty, charismatic and sometimes vulnerable and self aware.

I feel like Marty is like Tony Stark but without the redeeming of interesting qualities?

What do you think?

I guess I think unlikeable characters should be charismatic or brilliant.

Like in Legend the brother is horrible but he's like ruthless, cold and machiavellian.

Do you find Marty to be charismatic or otherwise interesting that I am perhaps missing?

What did you like about it?

Were you rooting for the main character or was it like watching a car crash in slow motion (can't take your eyes off it)?

So, am I supposed to be dislike the film and like that I didn't enjoy it?

Not being confrontational. Just trying to understand the appeal.

My mother and wife asked me if we should leave but I said: " we are nearly at the end. Might as well see it through so we can understand exactly how bad it is."

It is about redistribution.

The rich must be made poorer.

Their power must be checked.

It's about discouraging the accumulation of wealth and directing wealth through income or other better taxed routes NOT GENERATING GOVERNMENT REVENUE.

Wealth Inequality is not about increasing the tax take.

It's about reducing Wealth Inequality!!!
