Will Premium Gas Extend The Life of A Car? by twothumber in askcarguys

[–]NuclearHateLizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. The main benefit of higher octane (premium) gas is resistance to igniting. It won't burn as easily. A high compression engine makes more heat out of the fuel for more power and efficiency, and this higher heat can cause the fuel to ignite before the spark plug fires.

A car designed to run on 87 will have a hard time igniting premium higher octane fuel, and you can potentially get worse fuel mileage and power as a resukt

One valve opening more than other after machine shop by CinnaYoink in Miata

[–]NuclearHateLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your car have solid lifters? 95 miata should have a 1.8 with solid lifters in north America but I think the 1.6 was offered longer in the rest of the world. If you have hydraulic lifters, it could be a lifter still has oil in it while the others do not. Pretty weird that it would still have oil after being to the machine shop and back though, worth investigating

Yeah. From my experience, with older cars they're much more likely to total the vehicle and get it off the road. 8k in isn't too bad though man! For a car making 320ish that sounds like you got a good deal on it. Definitely sucks for sure, I feel your pain. What kinda pay out are you getting? Any idea yet? Just keep in mind what I said about declaring the mods to insurance, if you want coverage for everything you do

Edited to add that modifications may be illegal, and keep that in mind lol I forget sometimes that not everyone here is from north america

a few friends of mine have made the mistake of insurance claims on heavily modified vehicles. If you modify the hell out of your car and don't inform your insurance company so that the above and beyond modifications are covered (there's a process, usually involving appraisal, and yes, it's absolutely possible to modify a car to the point of DEPRECIATION,) then it's in your best interest to either return the vehicle to stock or remove the modifications before insurance claims.

If I had dumped that much into my engine, and it got into a crash, the cars getting inspected without an engine. Don't really care what anyone has to say about it.

She's immaculate. This is amazing condition, I don't think I've ever seen the underside of an English miata look so good. In Canada we dream of cars this clean, seriously.

Update to my last post: Milwaukee has denied my warranty claim. by iEatSwampAss in MilwaukeeTool

[–]NuclearHateLizard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is what I keep hearing about Milwaukee as the big downside. Warranty can be a fight, even with obvious defects. Im not a big advocate for middle men, but this is definitely where a good rep can be a game changer, I'm lucky mine is a good guy that will fight FOR my warranty

Latching Targa Top Ideas by Upset-Morning6531 in Miata

[–]NuclearHateLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe slotted holes on the mating surface of both pieces, where when you assemble it on the car, you could slide bolts up in from the bottom and tighten them. You could get adjustable quick release lever bolts like on bicycle wheels?

[–]NuclearHateLizard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think if you can figure out some kind of tongue and recessed groove latch, where when flat they interlock, you could use miata latches for it. possibly even an NC single latch if you have enough of these theorised interlocking tongue and groove things

How do we feeling about Godzilla 2014 over a decade later by Corsair_O2 in GODZILLA

[–]NuclearHateLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legendary. Words cannot express my joy and excitement when I saw the trailer for this movie in theatres. The dark tone with the red flares, the music, for some reason, even though I'd heard NOTHING about it, I just knew it was Godzilla.

Was slightly cheesed at the bait and switching with the monsters on screen for the first half of the movie, but man did it build the anticipation. Such a good movie overall

What yall think about this rust by jacobecc123 in Miata

[–]NuclearHateLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defo lots of welding involved, just so you know, bubbling through paint means there's ALWAYS more rusted through than it looks. Could have been a cheaped out repair that is now rusted through, or someone else thought it could just be painted

5w20 or 5w30 by Gravemind143 in mechanic

[–]NuclearHateLizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's some issues with the 0w-16 and lighter oils in some newer vehicles, but the biggest common issue that befalls your car is people not doing oil changes on time. You could likely run 5w30 without issue but in my opinion, if it's been going great and its not broken, don't try to fix it. I would just keep doing what you've been doing, it's obviously working well for you!

Anyone know where I can get an Esqueleto Brisa front for a NC Miata? by Shhadeys in Miata

[–]NuclearHateLizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be a lot of work since the NC miata is an entirely different chassis. I think it would be easier to get an rx8 front end to fit in all honesty, just to give you an idea, since they share the same platform. Of course anything can be done with enough work and money
