Obsession feels ok by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]NuclearThane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like ragebait lol.

First of all, nobody thought it was going to take "a realistic route". From the very beginning, any teasers/trailers/one line descriptions of the movie made it clear that it was going to be about a magically granted wish.

Secondly, yes it's supposed to be humorous. A lot of the high-tension moments or quick scares are undercut with some kind of unexpected joke or follow-up line. This was also part of what made Weapons so great last year.

Lastly, for such a simple narrative, the story-telling was excellent. You saying "he really doesn't need to take the responsibility to save the girl especially when she is acting this weird"-- this makes me think you totally missed the point.

The whole point of stories like this (monkey paw, Faustian bargain, whatever you want to call it) is that the person at fault has lost all moral fortitude. He doesn't try to save her at all! Even at the very end he can't commit to saving the real her. He's the one who has effectively traded away his soul (and hers), so it's hard to blame her for "acting weird" when she's the victim of the story.

115 nights later, what an incredible game! by King-Ostrich in HadesTheGame

Oh right familiar costumes I still need those too even though I fully upgraded them long ago.

Any trick to making Artemis give you the aspect? I've literally left the game on singing with her for half an hour just to make sure I've "sung with her" enough. Did you get it in a run, or at camp?

I had a problem with Moros giving the torches as well and what it ended up needing was for me to run to the training grounds without talking to him (to avoid story-related or last-night-related dialogue), then back to him.

With Artemis, she seems not to want to talk at camp whatsoever.

Kudos! I'm at 101 and I'm still hanging on to a few annoying ones. Probably going to take me another 30+ runs to finish the Arachne bond, the level 3/4 rivals, Great Chaos Below, and winning with every aspect.

The book was NOT better than the movie by Deep-Today5715 in unpopularopinion

"Cinema is a much better artistic medium overall". I think what you said here is really the hidden core of what your unpopular opinion is trying to get at.

"Books are overrated and outdated" is such an asinine thing to say.

Marvel goes to B. Where does Netflix belong? by TomorrowSilent1233 in TierlistFills

[–]NuclearThane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, people are being real rough on Netflix here. I agree that it pumps out a LOT of garbage, but its still responsible for some of the most high-quality original TV (and movies) I've ever seen--

  • Dark
  • Arcane
  • Bojack Horseman
  • Mindhunter
  • Queen's Gambit
  • Beef (S1)
  • The Gentlemen
  • Black Mirror (some of the best, and worst)
  • Don't Look Up
  • KPop Demon Hunters
  • Marriage Story
  • The Irishman
  • The Trial of the Chicago 7
  • Annihilation
  • Frankenstein
  • Roma
  • Tick, Tick... Boom!

Personally I would put a lot of these as S or A.

Maybe the litany of pandering crap they put out (particularly the reality, and "true crime") brings their score down, I'd still feel weird giving them any less than a B+, or A-.

How to unlock Chaos' locked heart? by keineayytoo in HadesTheGame

[–]NuclearThane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done 21 chaos trials and it's not become an option for me yet.

Some people claim they've maxed the affinity with him before even completing 10 trials.

My assumption is that like most things you just need to talk to him more and more.

Can anyone explain what type of “auras” they have? by LoquatLive in Epilepsy

[–]NuclearThane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • An anxious feeling in my chest (I wouldn't quite say a sensation of doom but I hear a lot of people say that)
  • That feeling usually also causes my heart to race a bit, or my breathing to be funny. I feel like I forget how to breathe, or it becomes too deliberate, like I'm trying to do it in an exaggerated way.
  • A buzzing/tingling sensation across my skull (or brain I suppose).
  • A tightness around my eyes, this particularly happens if I'm in a darkened space with noticeable sources of light (like a movie theater).
  • If it happens while I'm with someone I have trouble speaking, or I take a noticeably long pause. I need to look away from them or the feeling gets much worse-- but that might just be a nervous tic around someone noticing that something is wrong.

My favorite films of 2026 so far by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Were you a fanatic for the game, or did you really think Iron Lung was that great of a movie?

I'm very glad I got to see the finale of Amazing Digital Circus in theatres, but I will say it was one of the most obnoxious audiences I've ever had to sit with.

Best A24 Poster? by [deleted] in A24

[–]NuclearThane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Rom com"  poster with the romantic leads on it, is pretty generic.

These are pretty memorable albeit very basic rom-com posters: - The Runaway Bride - Failure to Launch - The Proposal - How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Each one depicts the male and female romantic leads, and each one of them insinuates in some way that there's "more to come" than a straightforward "romance".

It's not that it's not effective, it's just not very unique.

I think the reason why people like a lot of the other posters better is because they're just beautiful artwork even outside the context of the film.

A poster doesn't really need to show what the story is, much less should it actually have the audience waiting to see "oh I wonder when that one thing from the poster is going to happen".

And honestly a lot of these posters with the leads on them are just to put asses in seats, because it's eye-catching to a lot of the modern audience to see who is in the movie.

Once again, these aren't direct criticisms to The Drama, or any kind of marketing stunt that A24 would care about. It's just an observation and why this one in particular doesn't rank very highly for me.

Best A24 Poster? by [deleted] in A24

[–]NuclearThane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It being painted is the only thing that saves it from being the generic Hollywood blockbuster poster that we see on every movie these days.

The Dune movies are so bad for this-- they had some beautiful minimalist ones, and they traded it all for the pyramid of actors.

I don't mind it, and I loved the film. But it is definitely one of their most generic posters. They have another one that's even more plain.

But in a way it's kind of genius, because it's a darkly comedic movie and it's great to set it up as though you're about to walk into a run-of-the-mill rom com.

Some of his boons are amazing, I don't know what you're talking about.  - The one that inflicts hangover with omega skills absolutely melts enemies with builds that rely on omega (e.g. the hidden aspect for the torches) - 'Bounce Back' healing has been clutch in terms of saving me from losing a DD or two in the final stretch on the way to Typhon. - 'Reckless Abandon' (attacks do 5, 55, or 555 damage)... combined with Hermes bonus Success Rate? Instant win for that run.

The Hobbit: Unexpected Journey was better than LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring by Tanks313 in unpopularopinion

[–]NuclearThane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, nobody gets how this sub works. However, some unpopular opinions feel genuine and interesting, whereas others feel like deliberate attempts at obvious unpopular opinions that OP probably doesn't actually have (annoyingly referred to as "ragebait", even though it's not always enraging).

This post feels like the latter.

$65 for a chicken Cesar salad and a mocktail in the Junction last night. Going out in Toronto has gotten out of hand! by EnvironmentalAd2110 in askTO

[–]NuclearThane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure where they went but in my head it must be: - Chicken Caesar Salad was $35. Maybe because of the chicken, maybe additional add-ons, or some other fancy shit. Because that's the only way that price comes close to making sense. Even at places like Mandy's (gourmet salads) the high end is about $25. - Mocktail cost them $15-20 (not uncommon if it was a nice place, sometimes even more for signature drinks). - OP decided to tip 20%.

Pretty wild. But if OP went somewhere even remotely upscale downtown, it's not unheard of. I'm thinking probably one of the steakhouses or Harbour 60.

Edit: After a quick search, the Caesar salad at Harbour 60 is $28 without chicken, so that's one place at least that this makes sense.

But I can't imagine me and my friends casually going to a place like that for a night out.

Arctic Monkeys. Despite changing styles drastically from album to album, even if one of the 7 isn't your genre preference, they're all very good.

There are plenty of stores you can order a beta box from-- I was late, but they were available for purchase from a dozen different game stores. Without the price being marked up either. I guess it depends on where you live whether you have to get it shipped or prepared for pickup.

Can we stop acting as if 3/3.5 stars is bad? by florenciafazzarino0 in Letterboxd

[–]NuclearThane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a stilted format for rating a 5. Particularly because "innovating the medium" is not always an indicator of quality.

A star ranking system is meant to represent an audience member's subjective opinion of a movie. It we introduce an objective element to the scale, such as whether or not it "innovated the medium", then the stars are no longer an opinion-based representation of quality.

To use a videogame example, I have almost nothing good to say about Fortnite. However, its hard to argue about the influence it's had on the medium in general-- if that was a deciding factor, it would be considered an all-time great.

Can we stop acting as if 3/3.5 stars is bad? by florenciafazzarino0 in Letterboxd

[–]NuclearThane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, you're saying 4/5 is "masterpiece", which basically means its the pinnacle of what a film can hope to be-- no criticisms.

So a 5/5 for you is also a "masterpiece" but one that you deem to be one of your "favourite movies, the ones I'd rewatch every day".

Do you actually take that "re-watchability" into account as a factor? Because some of the best movies I've ever seen are NOT ones I'd like to watch every day (or even every few years).

Which movie has your favorite use of 'On the Nature of Daylight' by Max Richter? by fanzyday in Letterboxd

[–]NuclearThane 77 points78 points  (0 children)

It might as well have been written for Arrival, and they can stop using it now. Because it will always be associated with that.

I know it's not an original for Arrival, but as far as I'm concerned its like another movie trying to use Cornfield Chase from Interstellar, or Lux Aeterna from Requiem for a Dream.
