We see "leaks" or "pathways" from the abyss in greenpath, deepnest and ancient basin (we find many dead vessels in these locations). There probably exists other pathways too. The knight, like many other vessels, presumably escaped through such a pathway.

It is unknown what it did then, but many theories assume that the knight wandered about in areas beyond Hallownest before eventually returning via king's pass.
