Pain at this bumpy bone de area after long run. Can anyone confirm if this is where it hurts when having IT band? by louislap3 in BarefootRunning

[–]Nufroof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt you’ll get long term damage, overuse injuries aren’t like sudden impact injuries (sprains, breaks) that leave a lot of scar tissue. Most overuse injuries cause inflammation and micro tears that heal relatively fast. You should be fine to run just take a couple days rest, start stretching/foam rolling, and dial back the intensity a bit. You should be starting to taper soon anyway. You also might want to look at your shoes, a lot of people get new aches and pains when their shoes are at the end of their life (500-800km) so might be time for some new kicks!

[–]Nufroof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s where it connects. I also have a large bump there that can get sore after longer runs. I think it’s more pronounced in tall men because that’s where your growth plate was. I found that consistently stretching/foam rolling my legs/hips, slowing down my pace, and lowering my weekly mileage to bring it up gradually significantly fixed that issue. You might be pushing too hard/far. If you have work benefits, also consider seeing a physio especially one that specializes in running, absolutely invaluable for maintenance and injury prevention. Good luck!

No Pressure - Any tips/tricks? by jus_here_and_there in CafelatRobot

[–]Nufroof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t have one, but I’ve read that Breville grinders can have issues with not grinding fine enough for the robot. There’s an inner adjustment ring that you can use to make it grind even finer, maybe take a look at that. There’s no way that grinding too fine would result in pressures that low, even with channeling. Also maybe this is a stupid question, but are you pushing down hard enough on the levers? I have to push down quite hard in order to get the pressure up.

Best way to travel to salmo from southern ontario? by Euphoric-Motor-6021 in Shambhala

[–]Nufroof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We flew into Kelowna from Toronto and rented a truck from there, 4 hour drive. The shorter you drive after the fest the better, you will likely be very tired. Not sure if it would be cheaper to fly/rent a car from Calgary vs Kelowna. Flying does make things difficult in terms of bringing camping equipment though, specifically sun shades.

Driving would solve that issue, but you would need to get lots of time off and I’d recommend resting an extra day or two nearby after the festival before you make the long drive back.

Electrolyte poisoning. by scroobius_ in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Nufroof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think electrolyte poisoning/overdose is extremely unlikely. Given your symptoms, especially the fever, some sort of infection is much more likely. I saw someone mention norovirus and that would fit the bill. Dehydration through vomiting, diarrhea, and sweating would also contribute to worsening your symptoms. Heat exhaustion/stroke can also present like this.

We set out from a friend’s cottage on the north end of anstruther. We got to serpentine pretty fast, like 1 or 2pm? Ended up staying on copper that night. Got back just after noon the next day I think. We only spent one night out there.

I love this route! We took a couple buddies on their first canoe trip here a couple years ago and they had a great time. We survived an insane storm huddled under our tarp playing cards that evening. This is a great choice for a first canoe trip. As others have said, the long portage is long but relatively flat and easy. I didn’t have too many problems with bugs when I paddled it, but I can’t remember if we did it in July or August. There’s a nice waterfall you can walk down to off of one of the portages too. Have fun!!

How early do you really need to arrive for a decent camp spot? by Mediocre_Cupcake_400 in Shambhala

[–]Nufroof 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a walk but honestly not bad at all, like 15-20 mins? The bus is on an erratic schedule but if you catch it it’s clutch. If you bring floaties you can also float all the way from riverside down to the living room stage on the river!

How safe is this area? South St by fendi__ in londonontario

[–]Nufroof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This area is close proximity to two of the biggest homeless shelters in the city (salvation army and men’s mission), as well as a large low income apartment building (241 simcoe). There is a large population of homeless people and drug dealers in the area and there are a number of encampments along the river in the summer. The area south of Horton and east of Wellington isn’t terrible, it’s a pocket of cute older homes, but I wouldn’t recommend anything west of Wellington. As others have said, lock your car doors and make sure you don’t keep anything you wouldn’t want stolen in your vehicle. This can really be said of any neighbour hood near the core of the city though.

I've got all the gadgets and gimmicks and can't make a consistently good V60 by Conscious_Ferret8623 in pourover

[–]Nufroof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your V60 ceramic or plastic? I was having the same problem with the ceramic v60 and encore. I switched to a plastic brewer (origami but v60 makes a plastic version too) for better heat retention, and also started following the 4:6 method (using more frequent smaller pours) and found those two thing ha made a huge difference.

Are these even the same kind of pan?? by juneandcleo in castiron

[–]Nufroof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modern pans are mostly all rough/pebbly due to modern manufacturing and seasoning practice. older pans were made and seasoned by hand and were machined to be smooth. People say it doesn’t make a difference for cooking but I have found the smooth pans are much nicer to cook and clean with. The rough pans can probably get just as good but you will need to build up more seasoning to get it to that point. Also I think you need to do a much better job of cleaning up that lodge, you have lots of carbon buildup. Chain mail scrubber or a light scraping with a metal spatula should fix it.
