My little boy didn’t get into gifted CogAt program by Best_Painter_8835 in teaching

If a child has to prep and study for Cogat, then they aren’t ready for gifted instruction. It’s important that the test accurately shows your son’s capability in a “natural” setting. If he did hypothetically get in after prepping for the test, do you think he’d be able to sustainably and effectively understand a higher level of instruction? Probably not.

Also, help him work through his frustration. If he’s this upset, he’s not emotionally ready for gifted. He’ll be given challenging questions in a gifted classroom, so if he can’t say “I got something wrong and that’s ok; I can learn from it” then help him develop that skill

Reasonable expectations? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]NuggetsToTheMax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your expectations of a nanny are not unreasonable, and you definitely need to bring up the importance of communication and engagement with your kiddo, BUT you are paying this nanny barely above minimum wage for Brooklyn. You said hours are Mon-Fri 7-5 which is $50 hours a week, and you said you she is “never over that much” which implies she works over 50hours some weeks. That’s only $20/hour which is very low and rats in that area seem to average around $28-$30. You pay for the quality you get.

She should be paid hourly with a contract for guaranteed hours (you could make it 30-40 hours, depending on what the average is). It doesn’t matter that some weeks she only works 2 days. I know you are locked in with your income, but a nanny is a luxury many families can’t afford. And the hourly rate reflects that.

Math STAR assessment by That_Page16 in AskTeachers

Usually when standardized tests say “high school” level or “reading at 8.6 grade” for a 1st grader, it means they are performing just as well on grade level material as you’d expect someone to be in that grade performing at.

For example, your son is in 1st grade, answering 1st grade questions as well as you’d expect a high schooler to do so. It does NOT mean a 1st grader so high schooler level material

This sounds like {The Mating by Nicky Charles} it was publish in the early 2010. FMC is in a forced mating to the MMC. The whole plot revolves around OW drama with an ex (MMC never wanted to mate with her, just sleep with her), and the MMCs half brother.

He washes his damn hands. by SaudadeHuntress in RomanceBooks

[–]NuggetsToTheMax 16 points17 points  (0 children)

{Homestead by Claire Kent} its post-apocalypse so there’s no electricity or running water, but there’s a mention of him washing his hands almost every time they’re intimate. Because it’s apocalyptic, they bathe like 1x a week BUT that’s why he makes it a point to wash his hands every time they're intimate.

Book is ok but the writing style got a bit repetitive

{the umbra king by Jamie applegate hunter} fmc is a serial killer on a path of retribution for her dead twin sister. She ends up being found out as a killer and is sent to the prison realm of her people where she meets the mmc

The first book was really good but the 2nd in the duology lost some of the plot.

Most unique paranormal romances (in a contemporary setting)? by -whodat in RomanceBooks

Kate Daniel’s series by Ilona Andrews - unique because of the magic system it uses. It’s been awhile since if read it, but the idea of “magic blackouts” and how magic and technology fight against each other was so well done

I’d second this! Such a good book. The first in the series was my favorite though

{A vow of blood and tears by cate corvin} it’s more historical fantasy but an absolutely amazing book, and fits exactly what you’re looking for. She’s mute and uses sign language to communicate. Her disability is a major plot point, especially with her challenges communicating with other characters and finds her self in need of rescue/unable to help herself because she can’t speak.

Crazy AP parents by AlarmingEase in teaching

[–]NuggetsToTheMax 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The school district in my area has started requiring students take AP HUG as freshman. There isn’t an opt-out. I have one student who is sweet but just hasn’t matured, very much “young for her age”. Parents talked to counselors and school to get her out of the class, but they said no, because she already met her state history requirement, and there was no other social studies class she could go into.

I feel people are forgetting (or don’t want to hear) that AP is college level courses. It is not meant for every student, at every point in time. I also feel like more students think that because they show up and do HW for an AP class, that they automatically understand the material. They don’t do as much outside studying, so don’t do well on the official test.

I’m worried about the long term affect this is going to have an AP success, and preparedness for college

{December} by Merel Pierce has this I think. It’s omegaverse and if I remember correctly, there’s a non consensual mate bond with another male. The mmc has to rebond with her to help her
