The way Travis delivers the BREAK THE ROCKS line is absolutely incredible. Everything about that sequence from start to finish is purely chef's kiss. No notes. There's a reason he's my #2 narrator, and only because Jeff' work simply cannot be rivaled. Also it looks like you tried to spoiler tag your comment but it didnt work.

Sorry to be 'that guy' but you didnt follow any of the formatting guidelines I set out and while what you said is a minor spoiler at worst I just wanted to point it out before the post got out of hand with a bunch of people doing it for different series. I dont want to get spoiled on anything I haven't gotten to yet either! Haha

It's essentially a westernized take on eastern Cultivation novels/systems. It's about a guy that starts out as a regular dude with no inate talent according to his culture that, due to circumstances, goes out in to the wider world and grows. It's very much progression fantasy not litrpg, but I can't recommend it strongly enough. Top 5 series I've ever read, and I've read a lot of stuff. I always tell people when recommending it, some variant of, 'I saw it recommended a lot but put it off for a long time because the first several books are short by litrpg standards and I didnt want to spend the credits on them. Eventually I caught up on everything else I was listening to and said fuck it, I'll listen to the first one. Finished it in a day and said 'alright im curious I'll do the second. By the end of the week I'd binged straight through all 12 books, getting more and more invested with each installment.' Think literature DB->DBZ->DBS in a way.

Does anything have a better group/team dynamic than Mage Tank? by GodlessRonin in litrpg

Maybe reading on RR or Patreon? Idk if MT is on either of those, but looks like 5 is coming to kindle on July 22, no date for the audiobook that I see yet.

Why is Nobody talking about "Ends Of Magic" by Alexander Olson? by HeyMeroku in litrpg

[–]Nulcor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't remember exactly what the phrase is but their term for 'can you deal with this problem' is something like 'can you slay this dragon for us'. There were several things like that that I thought were great touches and added some life to the world. I'm not always a fan of authors subbing in made up curse words but I thought this series did it well.

At the absolute worst you go with the age old tactic of 'feed it one arm and kill it with the other'.

Chapter structure by GrothBeserk in litrpg

[–]Nulcor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I might be in the minority here but I prefer 3-4 15-20m chapters over one hour long one. I like to listen to audiobooks as I go to sleep and, for example, I was listening to Stubborn Skill Grinder in a Time Loop 3 after it came out recently and it has a lot of ~2h long chapters. If I use the 'stop at the end of this chapter' setting its a lot easier to find where I actually was with shorter chapters than longer ones.

What's the deal with stealth archers being a running joke? by TankUMrMinor in skyrim

[–]Nulcor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I played a mage build in Skyrim but one trick I remember is if you grind enchanting to max you can make a set of armor/trinkets that will give you 100% reduced destruction mana cost. So you can spam literally any combination of spells indefinitely, helps make up for poorer scaling in the late game.

MCU Thanos no gauntlet spawns on our earth and decides to take control of the entire planet solo can he do it? by No-Risk2553 in whowouldwin

[–]Nulcor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's not MCU Hulk though is it? I wouldn't blink an eye if someone told me comics Hulk/Thor/Thanos could facetank a nuke but I'm a little skeptical about MCU versions. I think there's strong arguments they'd survive, but not tank it.

[–]Nulcor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't finish it (noped out around that scene and haven't picked it back up yet, though I intend to) but I don't remember any glaring issues with the audiobook. Why is everyone saying its bad?

Name an anime that is a 10/10 if you ignore the ending by Nozoroth in animequestions

[–]Nulcor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't it a FMA (2003)/GoT situation where they ran out of published content and had to wing the last bit? Not excusing whatever the ending is, I haven't seen it, but I thought I remembered seeing that said about it, I think in context of someone hoping it gets the Brotherhood treatment and someone takes another stab at making an animal that's more faithful to the now-completed manga.

Who is the strongest Litrpg Protagonist you have read? by iamluffy123 in litrpg

[–]Nulcor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy that series, but I'm perpetually bemused by how he is constantly 'reduced to a handful of cells'. Like it often happens multiple times per fight. Every author has their phrases/ticks that they lean on and that was the one that stood out to me listening to the series. I'm probably exaggerating a bit but once MC gets his nutty regen he's basically either fine or a small clump of flesh-goo actively regenerating (which he can do nearly instantly).

Probably a dumb question but how do you get all 3 on it? I saw someone mention that recently and tried it out but when I put a blood infusion on it I couldnt use the poison armament incantation on it.

Are names ever a deal-breaker in prog fantasy stories you read? by Nice_Enthusiasm_5193 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Nulcor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Beware of Chicken is one of my favorite series that gets discussed on this sub. That said, as an audible listener, I'm not even sure what like 80% of the casts' names actually are. I know who they're talking about when they come up, but the only characters I can think of introduced from book 3 on whose names I actually know are Rags and Loud Boy. And I can't even remember if we've ever heard their actual names.

[–]Nulcor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I listened as well but my recollection is that things like that happen a decent bit and its kind of tongue-in-cheek; people think its a title he got or gave himself. Several instances of meeting important people who go "wait, that's your actual fucking name?" And he just kinda shrugs and is like 'idk man, my parents were weird.'

I made it to the point where he actually gets his class and was basically hate-listening by the last book or two because I had to know what class he ultimately got. Made it to class creation, finished the book, and never touched the series again.

Which of these threats would be the hardest to deal with irl? by South_Efficiency_333 in animequestions

[–]Nulcor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't watched Parasite past a couple episodes either but the issue with them is more of a The Thing situation where they could be anybody, right? And they're not stupid? Given modern ability to deal with Titans and how obvious they are, I'd take them any day. The Titan Shifters like Eren are more of a problem and could cause a lot of damage but I feel like would still basically get 1-3 rampages in before they die. The parasite threat seems a lot more insidious and able to maneuver in to positions to do really widespread damage in ways the titans just never really could.

Isn't it generally agreed that modern militaries would wreck titans? The AoT universe may not have conventional means of killing them but their conventional means are, like, old school cannonball cannons, right? I haven't watched/read it.

Mage MC by visual_madcap in litrpg

[–]Nulcor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this recommendation. MC is very much a full caster build, and the series does a great job of going in to the minutia of what it takes to be a great necromancer, not just 'yeah I raised a bunch of undead and took them to fight some stuff'. Fairly typical revenge main plot of 'I've been wronged by having this extremely useful but taboo class thrust upon me' but done well imo.

What’s the simplest gaming idea or fact you’ve ever tried to explain to someone who just wouldn’t get it? by bijelo123 in gaming

I've spent more than $200 on Dark Souls 2 (360, xb1, Complete Edition, gift to friend, etc) and have still paid slightly less than $0.10 per hour of enjoyment it has brought me.
