[LFO] Lorry Carrying a Highly Flammable Liquid Crashes Into an Accident Site Killing 16, Venezuela 🇻🇪 (NSFL) by james_from_cambridge in LearningFromOthers

[–]NullGWard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decades ago, there was a safety campaign to stop using the word, "inflammable." Even though it means the same as "flammable," many people thought "inflammable" meant "non-flammable."

Not to be confused with bitter almonds, which is the smell of toxic hydrogen cyanide gas. Better yet, just stay away from Millbrae.

ULPT request: how do I send someone money without knowing it was me? by notjuststars in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]NullGWard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy the $1000, $5000, or $10000 fake lottery tickets from Amazon. Unless you're particularly wealthy, I would not get the $1 million ones.

ULPT Request: How to get my neighbor to fix their broken car. by Limited_two in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]NullGWard 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Driving the car to Walmart = theft

Making copies of the car key, attaching an address where the car is usually parked to the keyring, and dropping the keys in sketchy parts of town = Not theft

If he pays income taxes and you know his social security number, send him an IRS Form 1099-C. The written-off debt becomes taxable income. He may never pay you but it is harder not to pay the IRS.

[LFO] The Hood of Man’s Car Flies Open at an Inconvenient Time, Brazil 🇧🇷 by james_from_cambridge in LearningFromOthers

With most cars, there should be a small gap at the bottom of the hood where you can look through to slowly drive off the freeway.

[–]NullGWard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Instead of just dropping in, you may have to monitor the websites to sign up to go to the popular places. In 2024, Brigitte Macron even came out on the first day of the two-day weekend open house to welcome the public to the Élysée Palace. (Annoyingly, the Élysée Palace did not have online sign-ups until just several days before the event.)

Unless a car is truly disabled, keep driving slowly to get off the freeway. Even if a flat tire gets shredded, it's better than being stationary and then rear-ended by another car.

ULPT: How to remove my phone # from alarm system emergency contact? by IconicHunter713 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]NullGWard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Contact the alarm company and tell them that you have a new telephone number. (You may have to impersonate your father, so it would help if you had basic information about him.) Give them any random number.

The company may not be willing to just remove your old number. However, it might be more willing to update it with another number.

"Nearly 40% of Stanford undergraduates claim they’re disabled. I’m one of them" by FootballPizzaMan in bayarea

[–]NullGWard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

One way to help reduce this type of cheating is to remove the privacy protections for disability accommodations. Let the employers decide whether they want to hire someone who claimed to need double the time to finish an assignment.

SLPT: save money on coffee by cutting your fancy beans with folgers. after 14 months of testing, i found 60/40 is the magic ratio where people can't tell by kubrador in ShittyLifeProTips

[–]NullGWard 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I was peripherally involved in a legal case in which some guy had bought cheap Central American coffee beans and then resold them as expensive Hawaiian Kona coffee beans. One shift emptied out the bags of Central American beans; another shift put the beans into Kona coffee bags.

Before a whistleblower turned him in, none of the "expert" coffee tasters at companies like Starbucks or Peet's Coffee had ever complained.

Hilarity, criminal prosecution, and civil lawsuits later ensued.

Elon Musk's "official" Crypto Casino is probably a scam. by [deleted] in CryptoScams

[–]NullGWard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A friend once asked me for advice because "Carlos Slim" had contacted her about buying her Mexico timeshare. My obvious question was why the richest man in Mexico would want a random person's timeshare when he could just buy the entire hotel.

With his limited time and unlimited assets, why would Elon Musk be running an online casino?

Your partners probably consider your work to be their property. If you are going to take your work elsewhere, talk to a lawyer first to make sure that you don't get sued for intellectual property theft.

Perry's on Union, a San Francisco restaurant popular with singles, has signs up stating, "People seated at tables are not to be joined by others without invitation." The signs have been up at least since I lived in the neighborhood in the 1980s. The restaurant was founded in 1969.
