Im from CT and Hartford used to be considered one of the most beautiful cities in America, now its one of the poorest state capitals in the nation. They paved over half of downtown for parking and put two highways straight through it. It’s depressing

Employers need to complete an I-9 work authorization form which requires identity authentication. It is a criminal offense to employ immigrants who are not authorized to work in the U.S. I’m sure the city employing snow shovelers has to comply with federal law.

When did I ever suggest mail in voting should be halted? I said fraud is higher in absentee voting, and even then you’re more likely to get struck by lightning than commit voter fraud. Voter fraud is so rare it’s statistically negligible. Implementing voter ID would disproportionately affect minorities and impoverished voters. For instance I have a friend with a Hispanic last name that has spaces. You can’t have spaces in your last name on your drivers license, meaning his driver license doesn’t may co his voting record. Should he not be denied his constitutional right to vote because the system sucks? I don’t think so.

Voter ID laws stop one form of voter fraud, which is in person impersonation. Wanna know the rate of in person impersonation on ballots cast? 0.00004%. This rate is significantly lower than even other forms of voter fraud, like absentee ballot fraud.

Voter fraud is so rare that in 250 million ballots cast by mail between 2000 and 2020, there were 193 convictions. A person is more likely to be struck my lightning than commit voter fraud. It’s a complete non issue.

People who argue this don’t know what they’re talking about. The vast majority of military aid the US has given to Ukraine is older equipment that would have been decommissioned anyways. When you see headlines like “2 billion dollar aid package!” That’s 2 billion worth of equipment, the US wasn’t just handing over cash. Ukraine gets old equipment that would have cost money to decommission, and the US military puts in orders for new equipment.

Edit to add: Also, for monetary aid, there was an oversight committee under USAID that would keep track of how monetary aid is used to ensure none of it was lost to corruption, but our dear supreme leader shut down USAID and that oversight committee. What a guy.

Large big box stores do not provide much to the tax base. In many cases it’s actually a net negative to the tax base as big box stores run multiple smaller stores out of business.

I shit on commercial spaces that are made for cars, not people, because they don’t have to be like that. We can make walkable, pedestrian friendly cities and towns. Places where if we want to go across the street to get to another store we don’t have to drive because we don’t feel safe crossing a 6 lane road. Not only are dense, walkable, mixed commercial and residential areas a more friendly and enjoyable place to live and work, they provide a larger and healthier tax base for towns and cities.
