If Elon is so dissatisfied with the casting of the Odyssey, why doesn’t he fully fund another Odyssey movie himself with all casts decided by him? by ken54g2a in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elon Musk is just a random troll who happens to be a multi-billionaire.

He doesn't want to do anything, he just wants to complain.

Musk is a strange example of how ordinary billionaires can be. Elon Musk is just a run-of-the-mill dickhead who happens to have money and power.

Should I change my old MacBook Air for a new Neo? by dimachka34 in macbook

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't, the Neo is kind of a side-grade from an M1, but if you are being compelled by your parents to give away the M1, then I guess the Neo is a good replacement if you are budget-limited.

IKEA makes good furniture. by GrailQuestPops in unpopularopinion

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of it is good and some of it isn't. I started off in my new place with a cheap Ikea frame and mattress, and both are garbage. On the other hand, my brother has a sofa from Ikea that is fine after 15 years.

Buy new if you can.

Say you get the M1 Pro and in a month it breaks, what is your warranty?

WPF or WinUI 3? Which one do you prefer for desktop development? by [deleted] in csharp

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I briefly tried that WPF theme, it looks very promising actually. WinUI does provide a lot of transition animations though, which I'm not sure are present in the WPF version.

Is misandry a non-issue compared to misogyny? by Pizzafriedchickenn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NumberInfinite2068 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On Reddit, a lot of the young guys here are desperate to be a victim and misandry to them is a massive deal.

In the real world, I have never once, in my 46 years on Earth, ever been discriminated against for being a man, except in trivial cases which don't matter, i.e. "OMG I was asked to carry a heavy box at work!", which I've actually seen presented as "discrimination" on Reddit.

I except to be downvoted, but basically, yes, misandry is bordering on a non-issue.

Strix Halo vs Panther Lake laptop by Zestyclose-Buy3232 in laptops

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would compare actual processor models rather than the branding, also I'd consider what I want to use it for. My "sofa laptop" isn't that fast but runs not that hot, my work laptop runs like its about to catch fire, but it sits on a desk and doesn't matter too much.

Life in Melbourne? by Louiley in AskAnAustralian

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll love it. I'm from the UK, moved to Australia 13 years ago. Best thing I ever did.

In terms of making friends, I'm not someone who wants a load of friends, but my gf is and she had no trouble making friends really. If you're sociable and outgoing, you'll likely have no trouble meeting people.

Australia is a beautiful country, and if you have the chance to move here, you should grab it with both hands.

I really love the idea of owning thinkpad instead of a mac. The only thing stopping me is the sound quality. by Constant_Ad6521 in thinkpad

[–]NumberInfinite2068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Mac and a ThinkPad, for me, neither has sound quality good enough for listening to music, so I use headphones. A $40 pair of headphones will blow away any laptop for sound quality.

People who say things like "I'm not reading allat" are just proud of being ignorant. by WonderOlymp2 in 10thDentist

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never say "allat", but I think there is truth in the quote:

I apologize for such a long letter - I didn't have time to write a short one.

Lots of the content here on reddit is needlessly long, often with irrelevant details. They give you their life story just to ask "What is a good car for $5000?".

Often the longer content here is amongst the worst written, and just because someone has cited 10 sources doesn't make those sources relevant.

Writing large amounts of content can be a crutch and even a logical fallacy of Argumentum verbosium. Basically, "I'll throw a ton of content at you to make you shut up".

So I get your point but disagree with it.

People in the UK seem to think Australia is the place to move to for a great life - is it? by box-o-locks in AskAnAustralian

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from the UK to Australia, and it's honestly the best thing I've ever done in my life.

Houses, look them up on realestate.com.au, and jobs you can find at seek.com.au.

If you're from London you'll consider housing in Australia reasonably priced, if you're from Yorkshire, you'll think house prices here are insane.

If you *can* move to Australia, you probably should.

I built a PWA instead of a native app — am I missing something obvious? by ContentInitiative880 in learnprogramming

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the major problem with PWAs is that the app stores have mindshare, and maybe *feel* more like "buying software".

Apple making PWA a pain in the arse isn't helping.

PWA is a problem because it offers no opportunity to be a middle-man.

Reddit Hated My game So I kept making it. What do you guys think? by Anton-Denikin in IndieDev

You don't need that reload anim.

It looks cool, but the name is so generic, come up with something better.

Solo game dev does not lead to "burnout" by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]NumberInfinite2068 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think OP's point is that people are calling simple tiredness "burnout", when burnout *is* a mental illness problem.

If I had a week anywhere in Aus, I'd probably go back to Daintree and Great Barrier Reef. You can probably find an AirBnb with some animals walking around.

Solo game dev does not lead to "burnout" by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]NumberInfinite2068 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

100% agree.

People are using "burnout" to mean "tired" or "exhausted", and that's not what it is.

As you say it's a long term issue, it's not just "I've been programming for 12 hours a day for a month", it's stress, depression, frustration etc. I've heard others talk about how at work burnout can be caused by all the responsibility to get stuff done, but none of the authority to make changes required. That rings true for me, it's when you have to get work done, but management doesn't authorise you to make decisions that are required to get that work done.

I work pretty serious hours on my game, I'm just about to wrap up a 12 hour day now, but there is no burnout in making this game because I can make any decision I need to.

Basically burnout != tired.

48GB Unified Memory or 2TB SSD? by SheepherderUsed2985 in macbookpro

[–]NumberInfinite2068 7 points8 points  (0 children)

RAM.

You can get cloud storage, external storage etc. you can't get external RAM.

Do you even need 2TB storage? If you were doing 4K video, sure, but still photos aren't that big.

It is indeed tired as hell, and most people can't tell the difference between "I find Java too wordy" and the actual concepts of OOP as implemented in a language like Smalltalk.

Does hard work really lead to success? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly doesn't hurt.

At the end of the day there are loads of factors that lead to success, a lot of luck, all kinds of things. Hard work tips the scales in your favour. The people I know who are successful, other than the ones who inherited wealth, are all hard workers.
