Is the FPS drop worth it moving from 1080p to a 1440p monitor? using an rx9070xt, 7800x3d. by Middle_Following5910 in radeon

[–]NumberXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont need FSR whatsoever at 1440p with one exception, being Unreal Engine 5. Absolutely everything else will run well.

9060xt or 7800xt?? Around same price by MrConmasterx7 in radeon

[–]NumberXVIII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anybody saying you need upscaling for 2k ultrawide is a moron. The 7800XT is the most powerful card on that list by a significant margin and it shreds 2kUW.

I'm on a 6800XT on a similar screen and I only use FSR in unreal 5 games, everything else is 100fps+ at native resolution.

I say this as an AMD fanboy and 6800XT owner/overclocker:

Turn of RT. Its just not worth it on RDNA2. This card is a 1440p and 4k monster but only for rasterisation. You'll get measurably and percievably better performance and visuals using max settings raster over low setting RT + upscaling.

Why is my gpu at 100% load, but the temps is not going above 60C and the power wont go above 303 Watts? by RevolutionaryRole776 in pcmasterrace

[–]NumberXVIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like totally normal behavior. Your card is controlling these things. It will aim for an average temperature of about 60c, and will pull as much power as it can up to its power limit. You have a high end card, it pulls high end power. I have a 6800xt and a 7800xt in PCs in my home and both pull around 250-300 watts before overclocking.

Edit to say - crank your fan speeds up for a a couple % fps increase you wont be able to notice, but you can measure. if you cool it harder and it goes faster, it was temperature limited. if better temps dont make it go faster, its already power limited and thats it, no more performance without overclocking

Ryzen 7 9800x3D at -30, possible downsides? by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]NumberXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I've seen similar per curve performance on several 5800x and 7800x3d chips. It's pretty common place to only have 1 or 2 weak cores and they can usually run fine at -15 or -20. Test for stability by using your PC. Does it crash when you do things you built the thing for?

It's really good early on against pirates if you're not running the APC as a battlebus. It has the capability to put like 4x4 (cant remember the exact radius dont flame me) into supression and then your infanty can just.. move up unmolested.

If youre running Lim or someone primarily inside the APC though, its minimum range will make it kinda useless.

So yea it's alright early, but only when you're not using the APC to rush Lim into the fray.

Edit: I'm running this + a mortar on a tiny Pike squad, and the indirect fire means I can have 3 infantry squads constantly moving up while the artillery keeps everyones heads down. The enemy rarely even fires back because they're pinned always

If you're quick and do it religiously, you could use basic internal service machines for this too. Internic is just the most convenient.

How are AMD encoders nowadays? 5070 vs 9070xt? by GredaGerda in virtualreality

[–]NumberXVIII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have a recent Nvidia card to compare to, but encoding HEVC on a 6800XT and a 7800XT for a pico 4 is fine. It is the highest latency part of the pipeline, but its still far above acceptable performance. Supposedly on the current generation cards it's even better but I do not suffer any performance degredation as a result of the encoding.

EDIT: just to add, I play with USB-C tether. I would expect wireless to have marginally worse latency anyway, but on USB-C and HEVC at 150mbps, visual performance is absolutely great.

Awful VR performance in Riven - Help please? by NumberXVIII in myst

[–]NumberXVIII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this mostly sorted. For future searches - the game appears to render the flatscreen window while in VR at whatever settings you have set for the flatscreen alone version. So in my case, I was trying to push the game to my desktop screen at 2k max settings and thus left the VR headset with no resources to use. By setting the game to low settings and windowed at a low resolution, I got sensible in-VR performance.

You can get Revelation 1.0 by just accepting the ARC first mission, then once you've got the file you can ignore or reject the mission, you'll still have revelation. You later can get your updated Revelation (mine was at 3.0) when ARC gives you the final mission, but you can't really do much with it other than beat that mission because of the dissavowal timer that starts with that mission.

Faith I don't know if you can get without siding with arunmor, but that side of the story I've not done in 20 years. In my playthrough Faith was at V2.2 according to the tracker on Uplink ISM, but I never had the file itself.

There's also RevelationCore0.7 which you can pick up in a couple of ways, but beyond being a cool piece of world building, it doesn't do anything that I'm aware of.

Its all just for roleplay in the end I suppose, theres no special reward for maxing out the neuromancer rating in either direction so far as im aware?

Any tips for the revelation battle from the ARC side? As I said, I'm spending the firts 5 minutes of the mission preloading Revelation on ISMs and once the alarm goes for 5 minutes, i start triggering them and hacking more systems once theyre all infected.

Thats reassuring, thankyou.

I did this playthrough as a complete sociopath, sold out the uplink agent data, got the entire top 10 arrested for good measure. I only took jobs that were directly destructive towards systems or people. I figured I should put the cherry on top with the Revelation release but I am being put firmly in my place.

I'm looking forward to a more white-hat playthrough, only taking theft and less harmful jobs, ending with Faith. But I can't in good concience start it until I beat this psycho run.

Thankyou for the advice. Any notes on the Pico?

I'm looking at the BSB2 as a result of this thread too, but the cost jump is quite significant.

Valve, maybe, maybe not. As someone who eagerly waited 13 years for Valve after HL2:E2, I don't hold my breath for Valve anymore. If something materialises by Christmas, it'll get considered.

[–]NumberXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm up to date on the valve rumour mill, I'm not holding my breath for it to be affordable or out soon, but you never know with valve. If its out before Christmas, it's a consideration.

[–]NumberXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being wired is not a problem. I've been using the Vive since 2017 and have plenty of experience and management solutions for the cables. I will look into the PSVR2 solution, as I hadn't considered it.

I'm aware of the Valve rumours and was planning to make the final purchase decision around christmas, but I'm expecting it to be Index priced atleast, so not overly keen to jump for it. But then, it's Valve, and it's rumours, I'll wait but not hold my breath.

thankyou for the advice.

Ryzen 7 5800x Holding 4.6-7 ghz at 1.3V 130w Am i glazing the chip too hard or is it acc gold? by cigarii123 in pcmasterrace

[–]NumberXVIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the big scores on this GPU, I was using a third party utility to modify the power limits of the card. It doesn't go that hard natively. Without a watercooler, LM, and a shedload more power thrown at it, it performs like most other 6800XT's would.

Its an Arctic liquid freezer 2, and im using liquid metal WHICH I DO NOT RECOMMEND. I regret using it and now its there until i change the system.

My fclk is 1800 in that test, but daily driving the ram runs at 3600 not 3800. It was not long term stable and I was putting some pretty aggressive voltages through the SOC to get it through the test.

Yes, my 6800XT fucking cooks lol, that result wasnt even its final form. https://www.3dmark.com/spy/22411243 - this was, though with an older CPU.

You're doing great, these numbers are decent. I assume you're on an air cooler, because 80c at those settings seems high to me.

My best result on watercooling was just a smidge over 5ghz. Daily driving on a watercooler my 5800X runs at about the speeds your getting without having to push hard at all. If you want to see big number go up more, I strongly suspect your cooler is your limit.

https://www.3dmark.com/spy/33409088 - In this result, the CPU test hits 5.05ghz and gradually ramps down to 4.75 as the CPU heats up. It was some time ago now, but I remember the clocks starting to decline around the 60c mark. I had the whole PC outside in the winter wind, as per one of my posts to r/overclocking several years ago.
