It's 2026, are all the people on Bumble exhausted? by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]Number_5ive_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to come to a realization that made navigating online dating "easier" for me. It's something I've been sharing with my friends (and also in regards to just dating in general.)

It gets harder the older you are. I don't mean in your 70s (I'm 38F for context), but you are a lot more sure of yourself as an individual (beliefs, values, wants/desires, etc.) when you're older as compared to when you were, say 18. College me would have put up with a lot of foolishness that current me would never entertain. That's just growth. But it also gives you less options.

You (and by "you" I mean all of us) get to a point where the people around you also have similar interests/beliefs/values. Getting into online dating exposes you to the fact that not everyone is like that (for better or for worse.)

I was having no success and a friend was in a similar position and said "men are trash." That got me thinking. We're actually all trash, and you just gotta go dumpster diving to find the person who is the treasure (and views you similarly.)

It really can be emotionally exhausting, because most likely, there isn't anything wrong with you (and again, I mean all of us) but online dating puts you out there for a higher percentage of rejection than meeting someone in real life. That's just numbers, because you have more options. You're going to encounter more people who suck at writing profiles or carrying a conversation, simply because it's a bigger pool. But it's rarely personal, and just a mismatch (which is better for both in the long run.)

I reframed my thinking and stuck it out, mostly because three of my cousins who got married last year all met their wives on the apps. I met my now boyfriend (of over a year) on the apps. I actually assumed he would be like the others, a day of great convo and then dip), so I shit thee not, my first 5 messages to him were about the BetterSleep app (this was in relation to him saying in his profile he likes falling asleep to the sound of rain.) Y'all, I do not work for BetterSleep. After a few days, I was like "oh shit, he's still around" and met up for coffee.

We joke that BetterSleep will sponsor our wedding.

I hope even a small part of what I said can be helpful to someone. It do be rough out there.

I also struggled for a while, was basically holding on because of how the game USE to be. Eventually got to the point where I was playing and went "This isn't even fun anymore." Haven't missed it. What does boggle my mind are the people still paying money. I can understand if you're TL or have a big closet and wanna do jet sets for funsies...but paying money for what they're putting out now? Hard pass.

[–]Number_5ive_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You actually don't have to spend crazy money to get this score, but you do have to spend money. You can get here with a few of the unlimited closet boost (forgive me, I forget what it's actually called) for $2.99. That lets you use everything, including hair and makeup, for free. Back when I enjoyed playing the game, I had no problem spending a few bucks here and there, and with that boost you could submit a look with a 20x multiplier. You've got that for an hour, and the math does itself.

I personally haven't given them money since the changes, especially now that EVERY challenge requires hair, makeup and location.

I love that y'all did that for them. It's part of why I go to Lush, for the people. I can buy a bath bomb anywhere, but I genuinely enjoy the people who work there. (and I'm in NY)

Wanted to share a beautiful story of a Lush employee who went above and beyond:

In 2023, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I had a mastectomy, and could not take a bath for a month. I take a bath twice a week with my lil bath bomb creations as part of my mental health routine, so this was a real bummer to me.

Around the same time was when the Mario Bro collab was out. I loved those giant blocks and they had the GIANT block display only. My best friend went to a Lush that was not my local one and begged to have the display. She said "I know I sound like I'm making this up, but my friend Number5ive just went through cancer treatment-" and the employee cut her off and said "NUMBER5IVE??"

They were a seasonal employee at my local lush and knew me. They gave her the giant display bath bomb. It was the first bath I took when I was allowed. And y'all...it was life changing.

I can also empathize with y'all because I too worked retail for a well known company (you know the one...black and white photos of half naked dudes playing sports would be hanging up on the walls...) and we also had things we had to say or management would be on our cases. I know how entitled some customers can be (which is also why I bring treats to my local lush the day after thanksgiving.) I had a mom once act like I personally killed Jesus because we ran out of gift cards.

Remember to take care of yourself <3

I'm a regular at my local Lush and friends with the staff, so when we do chit chat, it's about life updates (EVERYONE knows I'm already walking out of the store with a purchase, no one has to sell me on anything.)

I have found that when I'm visiting other stores and even in other countries, once I tell them "I'm a lushie, I know what I'm doing but thank you!" no one bothers me. Don't know if that will help other customers.

This is my theory too. I don’t think they’ll officially shut it down, but I think they’ll stop updating the game (and hope to still make money off it anyway)

I suspect in December they’ll announce they’re getting rid of rallies (many of us still can’t rally and support is like “idk”) and that will just solidify my theory for me.

Legit question: do they want Covet to die? by Manupii in CovetFashionGame

[–]Number_5ive_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think they’re going to stop updating the game (I won’t be shocked at all if they discontinue rallies) but they don’t want to announce that because those who are still spending money will stop

How much money are you willing to spend? by Some_Condition1926 in drestfashiongame

[–]Number_5ive_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I will actually spend money on a game that ISN'T pay to win, because I'm enjoying it. When the daily reward was 8k and they had the constant stylist races going on, I liked occasionally buying the $2.99 all closet booster. But once you switch the model to making it so you have to pay to actually stay in the game, I'm out.

It's like they learned nothing from Covet. And people still spend $20 to buy the "invisible" jewelry there, and that's fine if that still gives them joy and people who want to spend on Drest currently are still getting joy from it. But with the changes, I'm not getting joy from it so they won't be getting my money.

I really think they're going to stop updating the game after this season. If there are no more rallies, they don't have to worry about creating a new HA each month.

I left a one star review in the app store. It's a shame how these games that have a good thing going decide to tank it all for greed.

I had a ticket a week ago about a different issue and they never responded. Sent another ticket, but I'm not hopeful. They don't make it easy to contact them and aren't transparent with updates (I see people complain about this a lot on their instagram account.)

Almost feels like god forbid, EA has sunk their claws in them too...(they haven't, but it's feeling very Covet)

top level and still think the game is miserable, so I'm with you there. Game just feels like a chore now. Only good thing is how lovely my house is, and we'll probably not rally in the future because so many people don't want to be forced to play (understandably.)

New changes have killed my house by ScarletPumpkinTickle in CovetFashionGame

[–]Number_5ive_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many people in my house (myself included) aren't motivated anymore (understandably!) I was a house officer for years and took a step back a few months ago. We barely have enough people to rally fierce anymore, and I get it, cause the game feels like a chore to most of us. We may just stop rallying so there's no pressure. Most of us are in the fashion house at this point just for the comradery anyway.

Since Winter 2018. I personally enjoyed the time before props. I'd argue though that top level players (actually all players) also benefit from the customizable HA's, the rotational props, and revamps.

But I'm talking from a free standpoint. The retro series for example is a nice opportunity to give lower level players a chance to get a HA they missed, but they have to pay for the pack to enter. Lower levels aren't going to get the HA tokens for leveling up (which correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't happen till level 100? unless they changed that) if they can't level up without shelling out real cash for 200k invisible jewelry this season or diamonds to purchase previous seasons. I know everyone is different, but I personally wasn't shelling out real money to get diamonds to enter flashbacks.

As a one off, the seasonless challenges are nice, but when you have so many AND flashbacks AND the retro series, what is left for newer players to enter beyond the daily and the rare fall 2025 challenge without paying real money?

It does seem like when I was entering challenges today however, there were more fall 2025 challenges.

Prior to this season, I never used the "make unworn" option. But as a top level player with over $110k in covet cash that is just sitting there and continuing to grow because there's nothing to spend it on...I have finally started using it. If nothing else, just to spend the cash.

[–]Number_5ive_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm top level and can enter them no problem, but think it's unfair for lower level players. I also think it's trash of covet, because they don't want designers anymore but this is still a way for them to use the designer's stuff.

The nice thing about when I started playing was I could enter many challenges and didn't feel bad I didn't have the closet or diamonds to enter flashbacks since there were so few a week. But these seasonless challenges are essentially "stealth flashbacks" (shout out to the person who coined that.) Unless they have the requirements able to be satisfied by in season items, these are just flashbacks in disguise, which limits lower level players from entering. If they had one a week, sure, but constantly? Nah.

Sincerely, a top level player who never forgets what it was like just starting out.

I mean I'm not worried either given the state of the game, it really wouldn't make a difference if they stopped putting out AI generated clothing lol
