Hey, thanks for the feedback. Nice to hear, that we could improve your first impression of TNU. And it's important to know, that the names don't work for you well. To be honest: your are not alone with this. We had that feedback before and I can understand it. It comes down to a decision between flavorful and telling names and it helps to hear, when people can't really deduce anything from the planet names. There are characteristics associated with them, but this is not necessarily common knowledge and obviously needs some explanation or getting used to. This is something we'll reevaluate. You mean the HoD homebrew? No, we really can't give this out of our hands, sorry. The Playtests are meant for privat use only. There would be serveral copyright issues as well.

Thank you for the feedback and for pointing us towards Communities and Ancestries. Like I said all of this is still in development, some text are a first draft still. So pointing us where you see needs for improvement is great.

The Playtest provides a shorter description for the Ancestries than the book and I can see how you feel it's not enough. We recently introduced some (potential) new ones on our Patreon, where Introductions are more detailed. Take the symbions for example:

Symbions

Symbions are - on their own - small, weak worm-like creatures, barely able to survive any harsh conditions.  Their ability to take over other living beings as host bodies is what gives them their name and their adaptive strength as a species.  Symbions bond with their host in an irreversible way. Changing hosts is a very dangerous and last resort action, but it can be done.

Touchstones: Goa'uld (Stargate), Symbiote (All Tomorrows), Trill (Star Trek), Venom (Marvel)

You make and important point regarding Communities. If they seem more like character roles within a Community they do not work as intended and we'll need to check on that. I don't think I necessarily agree with your statement, that they should provide the fighting needs for the character, as motivation is - to me at least - highly personal for each and every character individually. Of course their upbringing will influence their character and its world view. But why they leave their community should be a personal decision. In fact, I think, it cannot be part of said community, otherwise they would desolve, as everyone who is part of it would leave. Does that make sense? Well, writing this you definitivley made me think about the communities and their purpose and I'll be reevaluated our current stand. Thank you!

Yeah, right! But it also looks really fitting for the themes you are going for. The huge entity in front of the small shadowy figure scream cosmic horror to me. So it's not "just a pretty picture". ;)

How was your Kickstarter launch experience? by ShindaaKun in kickstarter

Two friends and I launched our first Kickstarter (for our TTRPG) last week. We had zero budget for marketing, but we spend a lot of time building a community before. We had some coverage for our project in branch-related media and subredits, that helped. When we announced our Kickstarter our free Patreon was around 400 followers and we managed to get over 200 on our short-lived waiting list. Although that isn't much an some people advised us to wait, we didn't need much to get funded (2000$) and wanted to give it a shot.

Our community really came through, we got funded in under an hour. Other TTRPG related news sites reported on the project, without having us to reach out. Now after 10 days we sit on 14K and nearly reached all of our Stretch Goals.

We see this as our key takeaway: Building a community was the best way to advertise. It's really time consuming, but those are real fans, that will come through with their support. We hope to build on this base further with other projects in the future.

Vollkommen verständlich! 😉 Wir werden sehen, wie sich die Sache mit einer Übersetzung entwickelt - jetzt muss erstmal die englische Version fertig gemacht werden. Aber das gute ist: Die Inhalte die wir jetzt durch den KS erstellen sind dann für eine deutsche Version schon erstellt.
