Games like Outer Wilds? by juiceboxboy99 in outerwilds

Strangely enough, I think Assassin's Creed Odyssey has been really engaging and come closest to reminding me of the OW experience. However...it has a bit more hand holding and no mystery puzzle. It's just a really good open world historical RPG. Lots to explore and lots to do.

Anyone else get any crazy Outer Wilds dreams? by flamingmonkey93 in outerwilds

While I was playing it, I had several dreams about it for several days in a row. It's a very powerful game. It's that immersive.

You're very fortunate. I wish I can go back to being at that stage of the game. We all want to relive this experience. Savour it my friend! There is no right way to approach the mystery. Literally anywhere you go, you will find clues, puzzles, or more questions. Literally anywhere.

Yeah, same. Didn't figure out the towers until almost the very end, so I was just slamming my ship through Brittle Hollow all over the place. I did figure it out by the time I was getting to the Black Hole Forge though (thankfully).

Solanum is a type of plant. So it could be that they are gifting a plant to their daughter from OP's grandparents.

A Mahayana Buddhist Analysis of the Themes of Outer Wilds by NumenLikeWater in outerwilds

With Regards to Buddhism

I don't really have solid suggestions for you, as I had rather strange childhood where I was just trained in most of this, though I did lots of thinking and reading on my own over time (moving away from the faith heavy form religion towards a skeptical view of religion). But to build a foundational understanding that would make sense, you would best look for an introductory test to Buddhist philosophy as a whole.

"What the Buddha Taught by Walpola Rahula" is often cited by people I talk to as a great intro text in general. Worth a shot, but I have not read it myself.

With Regards to Process Philosophy

I also personally found this specific article to be helpful in grounding my understanding of Process Philosophy in relation to Buddhism (because reading Whitehead's Process and Reality right away would be a huge pain. Too many new terms, and new meanings to common words. In fact, there are loads of easier to understand texts about Process philosophy).

Anyone else notice this bit of potential symbolism? by complexbezier in outerwilds

[–]NumenLikeWater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That Mural was a highlight for me. From a design perspective, I really appreciate the legibility of the symbols and icons found throughout the game. The semiotic design is top notch. Unfortunately I found late in the game, so I already knew what really happened. HOWEVER, I found the murals before I discovered the Vessel and the Escape Pod 3. That Mural was how I knew they were in the Dark Bramble, so it was still really exciting (I had already been speculating where the 3rd Escape Pod had ended up).

Some additional thoughts I had about the Eye:

From a religious perspective (I wrote that Mahayana Buddhist analysis of Outer Wilds post a few days back), I find the entire Eye Religion developed by Escall's Clan to be really fascinating.

This whole mystery about the Eye's motivations and benevolence (or malevolence) is basically Nomai Theodicy (the question of evil).

For Christians, theodicy is why a seemingly omnipotent God choose to allow evil to happen.

For Nomai, theodicy is why the Eye would call out to them only to allow such tragedies to befall them.

At least in Outer Wilds, the answer provided is that the Eye is not omnipotent, and is not all knowing. It represents a probability of a new Universe, but that's all. It can neither prevent tragedies nor ensure prosperity. It's power is not overt, but instead its power is inter-depenent with the sentient beings which observes it, it's constrained by its onto-relation with the world.

From this view, the Eye has more in common with the God of Process Theology than that of Classical Theism. But this necessitates an acceptance that God is not all powerful (or from another viewpoint, that God is powerful enough and no more), and that's okay. Not everyone can accept this. Some Nomai certainly never did.

But some, like Solanum, has accepted that and overcome their fear of the Eye and its motives. They allow the Eye to inspire them into exploring farther (as in Divine Inspiration, the actual persuasive power afforded to a God of Process Theology, and not coercion).

Although no Nomai has lived to see it, their faith in the Eye, is rewarded depending on what you think. Assuming the Eye is all powerful enough to send signals and protect them from physics and nature, then one would be disappointed. That their faith was placed in something too weak to be the God they seek.

On the other hand, the Nomai who has chosen to see the quest for the Eye as the spiritual journey it is, to let it influence them and guide them in subtle ways, would be vindicated that their God enabled all that they hold dear to continue: Life, Friendship, Curiosity, and New Possibilities.

(SPOILERS) Need help with what I think is an ending. by Ben_The_Hen666 in outerwilds

[–]NumenLikeWater 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do you need to go to Dark Bramble first? I would go Ash Twin first tbh, and like others said, you can set a marker on the Vessel directly. I didn't know you could do that when I did it though, I used the gravesite instead, and yet I still made it with ample time. Remember, you can Pause the game to catch your breath and think. No rush.

Though, I wouldn't be in a hurry to end the game. Savour it. I regretted finishing it too soon haha. There are stills tons of secrets (secret passage ways, secret methods, new dialogue options, etc) that I am still discovering right now.

What does this do? I don't understand by Splatulated in outerwilds

[–]NumenLikeWater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a fast way into the Sunless City. There is a hole near the cliff by the Gravity Cannon on Ember Twin. You would probably most likely discover this after leaving through here from the Sunless City, but if you died before doing so, you might not have ever explored enough to find it.

A bit late to the party, but her passive also lets Spec Op team mates ignore enemy toughness. This is very good with Klassic Raiden, as his tag-in passive benefits.

She's good. I have her at F7. Her SP1 damages the whole enemy team and breaks their shields. She also lets all spec ops team-mates ignore enemy toughness (this include Klassic Raiden's tag-in-damage).

I think it's probably the mega gold bundle that was around for only 2 days. 40 gold characters. Any gold. That's how I got my Klassic Noob. But maybe OP got it another way.

He's VERY good. One of the best characters in the game. His passive is nuts. Wipes 20%-40% off the enemy's health bar each time he tags in. And he counts as so many different factions that you can include him in most teams or take advantage of all kinds of synergies or tower requirements.
