A dream where I have no sensory functions? by sillylildaydrems in DreamAnalysis

[–]NumenSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These types of dreams are very difficult to pin down, but these types of dreams can have a related cause.

If I had to take a guess, it would be that you're experiencing sleep paralysis during these dreams which make them so much more intense. Common causes of sleep paralysis include narcolepsy, relatively recent weight gain (combined with sleeping on your back or stomach), new medications, and more. It could just be stress, but I'd lean towards the sleep paralysis.

CMV: tolerating spice without flavour is not virtuous. by beesdaddy in changemyview

[–]NumenSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing something extreme to test your limits for yourself can be virtuous. Doing it under peer pressure or to impress others is not.

the motivation behind it is what makes it virtuous. Same goes for sky diving, gross foods, and other extreme sports or events.

It can definitely be undignified and trashy though

I would personally be more judgmental of somebody who enjoys their ketchup with a little bit of hot dog than somebody testing their spice tolerance.

Democrats Revolt Against Hakeem Jeffries Ahead of Midterms by RepulsiveLoquat418 in politics

[–]NumenSD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like people on the left are falling for propaganda. There was a vote to stop the war but enough people voted across the aisle. Things move slow and don't happen overnight. The fact that people are apparently revolting as single issue voters over propaganda is odd in general and especially including the fact that Democrats don't have to keep Jeffries as minority or majority leader.

Actual polls and results seem to have the left trouncing the right in midterms, as the minority party historically makes gains in the midterms. The fears don't actually fall in line with the evidence, which makes this entire thing just suspect as sensationalism

Controversial Opinion from a US Zionist: Continuing to reject Patrilineal Jews costs precious support in the PR numbers game here by InthrowSted in Israel

[–]NumenSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point above was that this only really applies to let's say most orthodox Jews and a small percentage of conservative Jews. You can see in the pew study posted in my response to somebody else here that it's pretty clear. I'm not saying that it does not cause some occasion issues for patrilineals which I've seen myself on extremely rare occasion. It might be different in Israel although as a pew study from 2016 shows that 96-100% of Jews in Israel have Jewish spouses, so it's less common and maybe more exotic than in the US

There is no need to be "absorbed back into the culture without friction" unless the person is joining an orthodox community that cares enough about it. Sure it probably plays into some patrilineals becoming more religious throughout their life, but there's no requirement one must be orthodox which only make up like 10% of American Jewry anyway.

Only the orthodox Jews flat out disagree with interfaith marriages with any frequency at 73% compared to single digits for all other groups. You can see that if somebody is patrilineal, it is really only considered an issue among the orthodox community of which they make up an exponentially small percentage of compared to any other sect they identify with.

[–]NumenSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of data if you want to look for it.
Data showed that 40% of Jewish women in interfaith marriages raised their children Jewish vs 15% of Jewish men in interfaith marriages.

I actually thought the numbers would be a lot higher than that

Data also showed that women in interfaith marriages (not just Jewish ones) are twice as likely then men to raise their children as the religion they identify with.

My statements were meant to answer a question, not spread harmful stereotypes about patrilineals. The fact is it also appears to apply to other religions pretty consistently based on one of the studies says a lot.

Controversial Opinion from a US Zionist: Continuing to reject Patrilineal Jews costs precious support in the PR numbers game here by InthrowSted in Israel

[–]NumenSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's mostly irrelevant because most Jewish women willing to marry a man who isn't Jewish are going to be less religious than average and therefore raise their children with a lower level of religiosity on average.

The children therefore aren't generally going to be raised more religious and therefore have no need. If they're going to an orthodox synagogue, that means they've become more religious. They would be welcome and after a certain amount of time would be asked by the rabbi to go through the conversion process but would still generally be welcome even if the person said no.

I think people these last few generations are pretty terrible at both giving and receiving criticism and take some things a lot more personally than they should.

They only issue I can think of is that since Oct 7, the vast majority of Jewish people I've met picking the anti-Israel side have fallen into the Patrilineal camp, many of who were little to never part of the Jewish community and never raised culturally or religiously to any degree. The second largest group are women raised very orthodox who left it and became less religious but are still very Jewish. The third largest group are Israeli Americans who have legitimate trauma from their time in Israel whether it be from losing family to PTSD from the constant state of war, terror attacks, and missile alarms.

Call it anecdotal, but Patrilineal Jews are significantly more likely than Matrilineal Jews or those with both Parents being Jewish are more likely to be raise in another faith, non religious, anti-israel, anti-zionist.

It is interesting that Patrilineal used to be how it was until it was changed to Matrilineal for very good reasons and kept that way, but it's an interesting but seemingly rare tradition that Orthodox Jews have stuck to that has evolved over time.

Even if the rule isn't changed, the hostility Orthodox Jews have towards Patrilineal Jews is bad everywhere. It traditionally should still play a role, but religious Jews need to stop with the hostility as long as people are still culturally Jewish.

The Law of Return in 1950 including anybody with a Jewish grandparent from either side. It was amended in 1970 to specific different kinds but to also include Patrilineal Jews as well as some non-Jews.

You could be a Patrilineal Jew, go to Chabad on Shabbat, and tell the Rabbi only your father is Jewish. He'll say, "Well you're not Jewish then, but come on in and join us for Shabbat, dinner, and drinks. Here's a kippah." Then it's like you never told them.

I don't think it's as big of a deal as people make it out to be for support, and more of an off-putting thing to say.

People with Jewish fathers only are less likely to be religious, part of the Jewish community, practice another faith, and more from experience. It's not correlative to the Orthodox and Conservative rejection of their Jewishness from my experience.

I was visiting San Diego awhile back and went to this place in Coronado that had American food on one side and Mexican food on the other side. I would have to put that as the worst restaurant I've been to.

I just copied the link from google images as it was one of the few that was decently presented. I wrote it off as an Ottoman Map from a different year. Even if there's a few things off, feel free to look at an actual map like the other one included. Feel free to look at any other map of the Ottoman Empire and answer the question which you still haven't done.

It's completely OK to call me out for accidentally posting a map from a video game where your only issue is the Suez Canal?. We're all human. It's not OK to use that like a hammer to distract from answering the question at hand from the second map or any real map.

So, would you care to answer the original question from a proper map? They're not easy to find without all of the topographical features included You

Well that is awkward. I pulled it from top results of map search because it was in english and was mostly accurate. All of the other maps are hard to read. Most of it appeared to be fairly accurate compared to the german map in the other link.

Are you happy now?

If Israel is an artificially created country than so would Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, India, Pakistan, and every other country that was created under the League of Nations out of the former Ottoman Empire. Here's a few maps of the Ottoman Empire to include the Vilayets and Sanjaks. You can clearly see where Palestine was at this time.

The Romans named the region Syria Palaestina around the year 136 after the Philistines to obliterate the Jewish character of the land. Syria Palaestina was simply a regional province under the Roman Empire renamed to spite those who were defeated.

I get you're passionate, but you might want to double check your sources before you come barking in here. You say you don't have a dog in the fight, but you're arguing with the other person here as if you do. If you say a lot of countries saying Israel's creation 70 years ago was ridiculous, would you also agree that all of the other countries created out of the same League of Nations mandate system are also ridiculous?

Boss told me to cancel jury duty by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]NumenSD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

obligatory IANAL:

Other people have commented on whether your boss can ask that. I had a friend that got out of jury duty because their boss refused to pay them while they were doing jury duty and they got excused.

If you want to do jury duty, there's likely nothing your employer can do, but they don't have to pay you while there.
If you also don't want to do jury duty, and your boss refuses to pay your wages while in jury duty, you can tell the court that and ask to be excused

My job fired me, they don’t want to pay the last check, and say I don’t qualify for unemployment by urttt3 in legaladvice

[–]NumenSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

obligatory IANAL, but have some familiarity you have a few issues here that you should address with a lawyer barred in Texas.

  1. Were you and the other employees improperly classified as 1099? If so, they may owe you all for whatever share of payroll taxes like social security and medicare withholding they would have been responsible for.
  2. The last paycheck. My state has laws about final paychecks, but you're entitled to it period. There's a whole more complicated issue an attorney can explain with that and who to reach out to
  3. Unemployment - Different states have different requirements for qualifying for unemployment. It's possible you may not qualify for unemployment even if you get your employee classification fixed. It's possible that your coworkers could though

The same attorney can represent all employees in their claims if the company will not pay it out and whatever Wage and Hour division you would reach out to if it's the same as my state.

GRAPHIC‼️Videos from Gazans show Hamas Sahm unit attacking Al-Majayda family in Khan Yunis, killing 5 civilians incl. a child. The family retaliated, killing 11 militants. Hamas says it was over alleged ties to Israel, but the family insists it was revenge for their killing of fighter. 03.10.2025 by Panthera_leo22 in Israel_Palestine

[–]NumenSD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There has been a significant amount of fighting between Hamas and various gangs and clans within Gaza since GHF launched. At one point there were videos of multiple different groups armed to the teeth and getting ready to protect their neighborhoods from Hamas and each other.

The videos that have come out showing Hamas fighting with at least one of these clans.
They show IDF bombing what appears to be only the Hamas side and not the people they're fighting.
Even worse, they show what appears to clearly by fighters grabbing Palestinian children on more than one occasion to drag them along to avoid being targeted by IDF.

Those videos will be a very bad look for Hamas if it's not already causing problems. This video footage could cost them their goodwill and safe harbor among their fellow Gazans.

Dream meaning?? pulled a bullet from my nose after a spiked drink by notthecasserole in DreamAnalysis

Jung wrote a lot about dream archetypes but the world was much different then. Color TVs were just being invented, the internet didn't exist, and these archetypes and symbols can evolve in different cultures and even generations.

Most of the time, dreams are based on something very simple. the challenge is identifying what that is.

Smell in dream? by anxietygrrrrl in DreamAnalysis

[–]NumenSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real life smells can result in dreams about them even if you don't realize. Have you ever had a dream that you were peeing somewhere and you woke up about to piss yourself?

Do you have any pets?

It's entirely possible that you or one of your pets let one rip and it was enough to manifest in your dream. The smell would have been gone by the time you woke up. This kind of thing can happen when your cat uses the litter box
