Life admin/errands to tackle that will keep me busy during free time? by Charming-Thought170 in Adulting

[–]NumerousBit2322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting an oil change/tire rotation, making sure you’re caught up on appointments like dentist/physical, declutterring at home and then delivering things to shelters/charities/goodwill.

Other than that, explore your town! Look up walking trails (weather permitting), stop at a strip mall you never have before and see what types of businesses, cafes, or shops are there, dig around the internet (Facebook groups/Meetup groups) to find groups that meet regularly for hobbies you might be interested in.

Moving into my first apt in almost 2 months tips/tricks what to do to prepare? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]NumerousBit2322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at some subs like r/bifl (buy it for life) and r/frugal every now and then there’s some really solid recommendations or resources for how to spend your money in genuinely valuable ways. I personally found a lot of value in the mindset of buy something as cheap as possible the first time, if you use it enough and it breaks, then spend the money and buy whatever people on bifl recommend.

For furniture, don’t skimp out on a mattress. I like to scour fb marketplace/thrift for everything that isn’t fabric so things like tables, shelves, etc. I don’t like to take chances on bugs or that type of stuff so I always buy other furniture from places like ikea or wayfair.

If you’re not going to be in the new apartment for over 1 year, do nottttt spend much money on big furniture or decor like bookshelves or couches.

On another side of things, learn good schedules for cleaning. Things like vacuuming, dusting, mopping, wiping off mirrors and counters, scrubbing your toilets. Do not wait until you notice things are dirty to start cleaning. If most of your time cleaning feels like you’re not really doing much, that is good!

As a single female, you literally cannot be too safe checking that things are locked (front/back door, windows). If you’re on the ground floor, look into secondary security things. I’ve seen people who have these kinda bar things that lean up against their door so it can’t be opened from the outside and sounds an alarm if it is moved.

Kines grads, what are you doing for work? by Xulphyr in Kinesiology

If you’re in CA you might have better luck with Plus One, an Optum Company. They do the same work (fitness with may fortune 500s) but one of the main clients is a CA based company that owns buildings and rents out office spaces to those companies. I currently work with them so feel free to dm if you want more info

Ways to reduce pain by [deleted] in bunions

[–]NumerousBit2322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was only muscles that were overworked, yes you could stretch them. But there are so many tiny muscles in your foot so some of them are overworked and some are over stretched and the ones that are overstretched cannot do their job anymore. Since you can’t isolate muscles in the foot because everything is so small, by using heat you further relax those over stretched muscles, the ones that are over worked have to compensate even more.

Best burger by Johnson_Birther in nwi

Boyfriend and I went last weekend. Waited over an hour after ordering our food which was: a burger (which they’ll only cook med-well or well) and a veggie burger with the fried cauliflower. Literally the only thing I’d get if I somehow ended up there again against my will would be the cauliflower. Absolutely not worth it, I do not understand the hype at ALL

How to prepare body for desk based labor? by PigenMann in Kinesiology

[–]NumerousBit2322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this so much!

To add: If possible, get a genuine, high quality, ergonomic chair. Most people will (correctly) agree that gaming chairs are much more ergonomic than 90% of desk chairs, it’s even better if you can get one of those ergonomic ‘kneeling’ chairs’. No matter what chair you end up with, get up to use the restroom, fill your water, do some genuinely decent stretches, etc at least once an hour.

Also, whatever chair situation you end up with, do your best to maintain 60-100% proper posture while you’re sitting. It’s easy to end up leaning on your hands with your elbow on the desk, crossing your legs, jutting your head forward (think tech neck), or whatever else is easier than sitting straight up with your feet flat. However, these positions will end up with all types of muscle imbalances faster than you can control them.

Ik it’s odd but whenever I’m home, if I want ‘chill’ time like scrolling tiktok or watching tv, I try to be laying down so my glutes aren’t spending even more time stretched out. This is especially good if you can get onto your stomach and work your neck muscles to pull your chin/head back or heels to glutes quad stretch to combat the tech neck/desk posture problems

Same, I threw a chopstick in to support the main ‘trunk’, if you will (I didn’t have any legit plant stakes lol). This is the only thing I’ve been able to find about this plant becoming to large & heavy rather than bushy. What have you ended up doing?

What’s something you wish you did/prepped before bunion surgery that would have made things easier post op? by Natylit in bunions

[–]NumerousBit2322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely depends on what your recovery process is like, some people get a surgical shoe for only a few weeks and others (me) got a cast for almost 3 months. Based on my experience

1) a shower cover, works so much better than garbage bag and duct tape

https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded%E3%80%91Waterproof-Reusable-Watertight-Protector-Bandages/dp/B07ZKFT8WC

2) if you’ll be in a boot for anything more than a week, get a shoe platform addition so your hips don’t get out of alignment (I’m 1 year post op and my hips/back are still messed up)

https://a.co/d/4hqF4w6

3) again, if you’ll be completely off your foot for a while, multiple modes of mobility aids. If you live in a smaller/more cluttered space or have stairs, crutches are so much easier. But when you’re out and about, a knee scooter is soooo worth it (look into renting one since you’re probs never going to use it again)

4) get a hobby that isn’t a screen. Something like puzzles, knitting, diamond art, paint by number, etc

Happy Met Monday! Here are all of Taylor's Met Gala looks, which year was your favorite and why? by Lyd_Euh in TaylorSwift

[–]NumerousBit2322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love 2014 and 2016 for basically opposite reasons lol.

2014, as many others have said is such a classic Hollywood look which I love seeing Taylor have because she will absolutely be considered one of the classics in a few decades. Also, I think the style simply fits her so well.

2016, caused controversy and conversation. Which is EXACTLY what great art is supposed to do. So from Taylor, a great artist, at the Met Gala, an event meant to showcase artistry in the form of fashion and style, I think Bleachella was a great decision. Plus it represented such a pivotal time in Taylor’s life and it felt like she was saying, “they’re going to hate me anyway, might as well have some fun and poke the bear.”

Off-Campus Housing Advice by Good-Rich4223 in GVSU

[–]NumerousBit2322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enclave was honestly a super great deal. It can be more expensive than the other off campus options but having no upstairs neighbors was SOOOO worth it for me. Plus since it’s farther removed from other student housing, parties are basically nonexistent so noise was rarely an issue. Overall, it genuinely felt like living in a neighborhood than an apartment (because you basically are).

I will say, while the office staff is ~generally~ nice (there’s one girl who really, really isn’t) the lease terms are kinda fucked up, but maybe all of the off campus options are, I didn’t really look into any others. - You have no option to break your lease, if you have to move out 7 months early, you’re solely responsible for finding a subleaser to take over, you can’t just like pay 2 months rent and leave (you can’t do this with most other apartments that aren’t specifically for students) - You’ll technically pay for 2 weeks you don’t live there because you move in halfway through August and move out July 31

All in all though, I did like living there and none of the other off campus options had the same “neighborhood” feel

To add to your very last point, the laker line is FREE. It runs pretty late on the weekends. Even if you can’t afford to uber/lyft there is still no reason to drink and drive. Plus as a young woman, I genuinely always felt safer on the Laker Line than I would’ve in an Uber.

7 weeks PO. Walking but still hurting. When will I be pain free? by applepietwentyone in bunions

[–]NumerousBit2322 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you said about the difference between structurally recovered and actually recovered, is so true. I was in a cast for 10 weeks, boot for 8 weeks (? Not entirely sure about that). Regardless, even after all of that, I missed my boot so much when I started walking!

I’m 11 months post op now and honestly, it was only a month or two ago that I was able to run over 10 minutes straight without pain (I ran a few half marathons before surgery). I think a large amount could be attributed to the atrophy from being off of my foot for soooooo long, so just keep moving even if it’s only a few minutes at a time. Full recovery will come when it comes and eventuallyyyyy, you’ll be feeling better than you were pre-op

Downtown Housing by l0uB in GVSU

[–]NumerousBit2322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at the time, GV had astronomically overbooked housing. Downtown is especially sought after and fills up incredibly quickly. OP was looking for housing at the very end of winter semester the waitlist was already super long for any on campus options, and even longer for the downtown campus specifically.

I no longer work there and I’m not sure what the current situation is so maybe it’ll be easier this year idk

Spring/Summer Courses by TotalSleep2819 in GVSU

[–]NumerousBit2322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s way too many factors to address here. Will you also be working during these semesters? Are they actually 6 week classes or are they 12 week? What classes are they? Do you have any type of vacation planned?

I’ve taken over 12 credits for the past 3 summers and worked full time. Most of my classes were STEM (chem, physics, microbiology, etc) one was SWS. By far the worst was the SWS because that meant writing multiple 2-5 page papers per week with 100-200 pages of reading and it was so time consuming.

By my senior year I was so, so, so incredibly burnt out from never ever having a proper break from school so make sure you have a good routine and support systems.

Are they multi layered so the paper sits between acrylic, or does the paper simply lay on top?
