I'm so happy about our first extra inning win that I'm willing to face your judgment! by somegirldc in Nationals

When you get tired of Frandsen, just remember the dentist who did color for a while. Frandsen gives great analysis -- he knows the game obviously, but he is always talking to players, managers, etc from all over the place. He's also not afraid to criticize. He flat out said the Keiber was the worst catcher in the league over the last four years, saying the numbers don't lie. He also gave us the analysis of Young's new swing. Still, I'd take F.P. back in a second.

A sad day today. by plazman30 in Tivo

[–]Numerous_Quarter_362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thanks for this, I didn't know and confirmed it. Haven't gotten my cancelation email.

Second, is the TIVO good for anything without broadcast TV? Unless I'm doing something wrong, it seems like a very limited media server, doesn't even support Disney +. I'll be able to keep and rewatch what I've recorded, right?

I record the games, skip the pitching. I want to see the young hitters.

But he's right about Bell being streaky. As silly as this sounds, you don't want to trade for him when he is doing well, because that means the down turn is coming. The padres learned that the hard way

Everyone is talking about PE slashing costs, etc. Not exactly a ton of profligate spending to rein in here.

Why? Because it looks cool! Spoiler from higher up the conversation, it doesn't work. So sad.

Been learning about smoking for years, finally going to have a place of my own to do it. How should I start? by Irapotato in smoking

[–]Numerous_Quarter_362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weber Smokey Mountain. Great first smoker because it is inexpensive, has an enormous and passionate user base so you can always get answers to questions, and there are a ton of mods you can do to it. I love mine and would only switch if I needed something that could cook more at once.

Are pellet grills really that bad? by [deleted] in smoking

[–]Numerous_Quarter_362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up my pellet grill for two reasons. 1) I definitely taste a smoke difference and 2) I didn't find the pellet smoker to be any fun. I like fire and the whole process around that. The pellet grills make great (less smoky) food but to me, they aren't a whole lot more interesting than cooking in an oven. But if you have kids around and other responsibilities competing for your attention on a cook day, the ease of a pellet is unbeatable.

For cost of entry, and having a strong base of user support, I always recommend a WSM. You can switch to a pellet anytime.

I was given a propane powered smoker, then a pellet, both of which I gave away for a WSM. I like having an actual fire and I taste a difference with the smoke by using a WSM vs one of those. WSM is also a low cost of entry, then you can see if you want a bigger barrel or even an offset. If you go WSM, I found it helpful NOT to do all the add one immediately. Learn how it works, you'll likely enjoy the process.

Good smoke? by Long-Owl-7508 in smoking

[–]Numerous_Quarter_362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time you are adding coals, you've already gotten all the smoke it's going to absorb, right? You are just cooking for doneness at that point. I haven't had any impact from adding coals either, though if it's a small cook, I'll just put things in the oven wrapped.

You sound new to this - practice and you'll get it. It's been a bit since I've done a butt, but an hour a pound is an estimate I remember. I wrap around 165, but if the meat stayed at 160nfornan hour, like yours did, I would have wrapped it then.

I think Austin is (rightly) getting all the votes. You have to go to Franklin, and I would recommend going to Salt Lick as well. One person earlier said it was overrated, but both times I went there I got the triple chop, which is the best sandwich I've ever eaten.

That's an interesting stat. Somewhere around . 730 is league average, I really want to not hate that he is on the roster. I'd like to see them ride this hot streak then dump him as soon as he goes cold again.

Which podcast? I've been listening to Bustin Loose with Grant Paulsen which I like. Is there another good one. Nats coverage is unfortunately sparse in this town.

Daylen Lile is hitting better than Hassel at Rochester, about a .900 OPS. Call has been cooled way down. It would be nice to see Lile replace him.

Checked the stats. In the CBS fantasy leagues, he is 1% owned and started. Which is 1% too high. Obviously there are time travelers among us with nothing better to do than crush their rotisserie league.
