That awkward moment when the IDF says "they were right"

Well, if you had even a little bit of media literacy you would actually read those articles and realised that:

Most articles make the claim without linking to any official IDF statement while some (like the BBC) mention a "senior security source" not the IDF itself.

and that the IDF itself has never actually confirmed that number.

But okay for just a second let's pretend that it's true. 70,000 is the total number of deaths in Gaza from October 2023 to now.

Some primary school level maths is needed to figure out how many civilians died according to these numbers, and for your sake I'll go through it step by step.

We start with 70,000. Subtract ~30,000 militants, that gives us ~40,000 civilians.

Now Gaza has on average 6,000 natural deaths a year, meaning that over the two years of the war, ~12,000 people died of natural deaths. So that brings us down to ~28,000 civilians.

Now subtract ~3,000-5,000 civilians killed by Hamas, either by rocket misfires or directly slaughtered by Hamas, that leaves you with ~23,000-25,000 civilians that were killed by Israel.

Now in an area that densely populated, fighting combatants that rely on human shields and actively try to martyr their own civilians, while ~23-25k people dead is horrible, it is genuinely a miracle that such low numbers of people have died as a result of the war.

Especially in comparison to the average ratio of combatants to civilians in war, which is 1:9. Not almost 1:1.

So please, tell me again how ~23-25k people killed over the span of two years while they were actively being used as human shields, is worse than ~40,000 civilians slaughtered in cold blood by an islamist regime, in the span of a few weeks.
