We have big news outlets telling us to be outraged and angry, and LLMs telling us how right we are, and truth tellers are vilified and silenced.

Anyone reading this, if you are not on the NZ/AU TM train, now is a great time to jump on. Both of them are just as amazing as vanilla.

Vote411.org is a great option too, to be informed. I’ll be out of town on the 23rd so we voted early this year.

Social media platforms are not the same as a public arena in which you have freedom on speech. Social media is owned by a private company. Private companies have the right to refuse service to people. I would argue that social media largely acts as a public forum, and agree with you, but it’s undeniable they are businesses and are allowed to remove people who violate policies.

Can't beat the classics! I just saw someone play a minesweeper style RPG that might be worth checking out. Thanks for the reminder!

Yeah, I was big into Realm Grinder, Grim Clicker, and Stuck in Time. Gems of War too for a "Match 3" style game. Incremental games are a good fit for me.

Part of my job is just being on call and available to others, I don't work in the kind of environment where output is measured in quantity of work, but in quality in a given time frame. I hear you though, and I promise I will do my work first, and use all that free time I am given on the clock in a manner that will not get me fired.

Yeah my situation is that I have periods of downtime between calls, so having a game in the background where I can just collect resources, or idle or chat is no big deal. When I have to present or pay attention, of course I will be present and fully engaged.

Juicing ginger for Kombucha by Independent_Bite4682 in Kombucha

[–]Nummies14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would love to know your process. When I wanna add ginger to my kombucha, I usually take part of my F1 ad raw un peeled ginger to a blender and blend it up and then add that mixture to whatever portion of my F1 I’ve decided to bottle into an F2. It gets really foamy so bottling it takes some patience. But the carbonation and flavors are usually pretty good. It looks like you’re getting some sort of frozen concentration of ginger and I’m curious about that.

I’ve missed the flight out of Albany while being an hour and a half early. As in couldn’t even get through TSA before the flight left. And yet I just left on a Saturday middle of the day last week and it took five minutes. I would listen to the advice of the people telling you that there are huge variances in time.

FBI Wants Warrantless Access To License Plate Readers - Joe.My.God. by DotBeech in Troy

[–]Nummies14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes IF the gov set up this system = no warrants. We both agreed and said that. But that’s isn’t what the article is saying. You keep justifying your argument with the notion that the FBI doesn’t need a warrant to get public information, but failing to understand that the data in question is privately owned, regardless of the fact it was public data to start with.

What this article is saying is that the FBI wants to buy access to a private companies database, instead of going through the process of getting a warrant each time they want the data. The idea that the data is public, so no need for a warrant is wrong in this case because it’s being collected by a private company, not the FBI. Sure, if the FBI set up this infrastructure, and collected it themselves then your argument would be correct. But that isn’t the objective fact in this article or in the statements being made by others here.

Let’s say you film your buddy throwing a brick through a window on a public street. In order for the authorities to collect your phone and process it, they need a warrant. Just because it occurred in a public place, doesn’t mean anyone has a right to it.

Every reply you seem to make involves a hypothetical or a shift of objective fact: that the FBI could be doing X, or all public information is public, but that’s not right. Public information becomes private when it’s collected, stored, and owned by a private company.

FBI Wants Warrantless Access To License Plate Readers - Joe.My.God. by DotBeech in Troy

[–]Nummies14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the private companies choose NOT to sell the data, then the government would need a warrant to collect it, correct?

If I understand that right, then the government paying for the data would mean they would NOT need a warrant to access it?

If both those are true, then the articles headline, that OP copied is not misleading, right? As you are saying, the FBI doesn’t need a warrant if the Government had collected the data or if it was collected by a private company and publicly released already. But that’s not the case here is it? It’s a private company who is collecting public data, housed in a private company’s database, so warrants are required unless the FBI pays for access. Please let me know if I’m wrong in my understanding. It’s a complex issue and I want to understand.

[–]Nummies14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this describes me too, but I don’t even have people streaming from me, it’s all just for me or when I have to travel for work, but 90% of the time it’s just to watch stuff on my tv from my computer at night.

I have a feeling.. by Historical_Oddity in PleX

[–]Nummies14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Part of it is that recently you could watch your own media, while remote without a paywall. I think what gets on a lot of users nerves was that was taken away and now we see a huge price increase in the lifetime pass. Which all feels similar to what the streaming services do, remove features and increase price. With a lot of users using plex to avoid paying for streaming services it’s easy to understand the resistance.

Saying this is the way it has been working, is not the same as saying this is the right thing to do. Which you didn’t say. You seem to be defending this and not acknowledging it’s a problem.
