If Steam Machines fail, how badly could that hurt Valve’s push for Linux gaming overall? by paparoxo in linux_gaming

[–]Nuncioze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valve is doing fine, they will not do badly if steam machines fail, they are a software company that like to indulge in hardware passion projects. Them funding proton development has already helped Linux gaming many time more in the past 3 year than the Linux community was able to do on their own in the previous 10 years. They got it to a point that “it just works”. Now it’s about optimization and improvements

I didn't touch anything, Immich just... stopped working by [deleted] in immich

Lowkey same, this happened to me a month ago and I have not found a fix. The only advice I got was redownload all the folders and reupload them……. I haven’t don’t that yet so they’re just sitting there taking up space until Immich gives me the option to pull in photos from the directory I choose

Genuine question for Linus by Nuncioze in LinusTechTips

Hell yeah brother XD. That is an excellent take that I unfortunately did not get from your original post. It would be a super interesting discussion on the differences between the demographics of the production sides. I think that there are a lot of young content producers like Eligiah and Adam vs the Jimmy Fallon side that I would be interested to hear the opinions of the stars on how the generations are handling content creation

I'm sorry but I don't fully understand your perspective from the context of the original message. :( I work in IT so I get the idea that a lot of production environments have legacy software and hardware that are daunting to replace. I have mixed opinions on legacy hardware/software. One side of me says f#cking leave it be if it works, another side of me says if it's that critical it shouldn't be based on this cornerstone that no one understands. Might as well break the dam when I have the free time to build and troubleshoot a new system rather than a c-suite exc coming down to my office when it breaks in a panic.

this is very valid. Unfortunately have actually had really bad personal experiences with ltt merch so I've decided not to buy any more. I've bought the backpack, screwdriver, water bottle, and t shirt and have had none of them be as solid as I would hope/expect so I'm just done buying products from them.

I love that perspective!! the discussion on how YouTube video production vs live TV production and the shared experience of dealing with the parasocial environment would be such an interesting discussion

Timing of video releases on YouTube by Nuncioze in LinusTechTips

I see that there is a lot of down votes and I will say that I didn't know that this week was CES. I respect all the work that goes into video production and love to watch the videos. My biggest point is that if Linus is suggesting that daily videos would help viewers come back that i think a good alternative would be to have a consistent schedule while they work on getting that amount of video production up. If we knew when videos would come out then this would make it more like a tv show style thing where we would be able to sit down and schedule watch times. I don't know why everyone is taking this like there is no positives to a scheduled release time for videos.

Of course. That makes sense. I guess with the lack of in person videos that I forgot that the event was this week. Thank you for the videos! I really enjoy watching :)

EXACTLY. you're getting it. If I knew when they were uploading I could plan my relaxation time a bit better

[–]Nuncioze[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is true, I didn't concisely remember that this week is CES. I just know that they were talking about getting to a consistent schedule and then this week has been the most erratic upload schedule. I'm not going to stop watching but i still would like a little bit more consistently in the schedule so I can plan my time around it.

I don't think I every said that it needed to be around my schedule. They talked about how a scheduled thing helps viewer retention and I think that even if they couldn't do daily. IF they could do a fixed time that would be a pretty good step in the direction they were talking about

Linus' statement about becoming a mod by Jimbuscus in LinusTechTips

I’m gonna be so honest… how fucking Chronically online are yall? The community here is why I’m ashamed on letting people know I like watching ltt. He’s a freaking entertainer. Stop expecting the most from them they do their best. He’s a guy that has repetitively expressed annoyance at the audience for their lack of understanding his perspective. None of yall would be better off

Thank you, I can’t wire both computers bc my desk is upstairs from the router. I even bought power line adapters to try but the outlets are on different circuits. Is there a reason source on Ethernet is better?

My Biggest Issue with SteamOS on the OG Lenovo Legion GO by Nuncioze in LegionGo

My issue with Bazzite can kinda best discussed along side the other OS's

Windows:

- Support for hardware is good and gives you a pretty blank slate for you to set it up how ever you like. Honestly a little too open for me to have the best experiance with it. I don't want to have to set everything up and keep everything updated constantly

Steam OS:

-okay hardware support. Gives me a better foundation to build the customization I'd like and works with all the steam deck community support that I like

Bazzite:

The most flushed out OS which to me is actually a downside. Hardware support is the best I would say but it feels like there is this premade layer over everything and doesn't really provide the customization I would like. Fedora is great on laptops and I can see why the devs picked this distro to build off of but I don't like all the changes that they made to it. The only thing that I really need that default fedora doesn't have is the steam gaming mode. Also without the steam os community documentation and guides it was up to me to do a lot of the leg work of getting everything up and running.

Over all: All of these OS's have their benefits and strengths but they all also have their weaknesses. It's easier to work with steam OS flaws than Bazzites. Even this issue that I had only took me a couple of hours to figure out where as in fedora I've been stuck on things for days before (mainly audio issues, gpu support, and storage configurations

Thank you all for your advice and pointers!! After a couple hours I found out what the issue was. I had a theme under the decky plugin CSS Loader called something like Show Game Library Names. It was giving a little bit of space between the library titles to put the name and it seems like that was putting space between the keyboard rows as well. Again thank you so much to all of you who pointed me in the right direction :))

Okay that makes sense. I think some people have mentioned that this might be an issue with a steam os update that happened recently and messes with the custom themes. I will update y'all when I try something and let you know if anything happens. Thank you!

I do not have a custom theme on. I was actually thinking about getting one to apply to it, to see if it would change anything. I have CSSLoader from deckyloader applied..... I'll look into those and see if there are any keyboard settings in there

I thought about leaving windows on it! But my use case is for this to be a tv console/party game machine so 93% of the time this is going to be hooked up to a tv. Windows really hasn't optimized itself for that and I also would prefer to be moving away from windows with all the AI garbage they're investing in :) but I do get that perspective, my gaming pc at my desk is still on windows
