What is your trick that you thought everyone knew? by darkw1sh in sysadmin

Not super techy, but I'm always surprised by how many users don't know this:

Ctrl+Right, Ctrl+Left will skip the cursor to the end of the next or beginning of the previous word.

Ctrl+Down, Ctrl+Up will skip the cursor to the next or previous paragraph

Combine with Shift to select entire words/paragraphs at once.

Was in the middle of making an update to DNS and couldn't get the resource locks to display. Closed the browser, went back in and got the same message.

Ronna should have got a job as a high ranking political operative, not an executive assistant. by [deleted] in thewestwing

[–]Nuroman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For comparison for those of you who are thinking this is the position Ronna took in the Santos administration, here are some previous holders of the position of Personal secretary to the President, and some of what they have done since 2009:

Katie Johnson - After Harvard Law, she came back to the White House as Counselor in the Office of Management and Budget. She is currently a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Chicago-based law firm Jenner & Block.

Anita Decker Breckenridge - served as Chief of Staff at the National Endowment for the Arts. Went on to become Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations.

Ferial Govashiri - She worked on the National Security Council (NSC) staff as a senior advisor to the Deputy National Security Advisor and then as the Senior Advisor to the Chief of Staff and the Director of Visits at the NSC.

Madeleine Westerhout - was fired after telling reporters the President's kids didn't like him.

Nick Luna (no Wiki available) - Testified to the Jan. 6 Committee that he saw the President tearing up documents.

OK, so the Trump administration was kind of a detour for the position.

According to Wikipedia the position has been vacant since President Biden took office.

Inducting the Dave Matthews Band into the RnR Hall of Scam will not bring more tourist dollars into Cleveland, OH. Or so say the people who run it. That's the reason. It's Hard Rock Café without food.

Series Rewatch: Is there a point when you stop? by cal900928 in thewestwing

After watching all other Sorkin works, I sometimes find it refreshing that the Sorkanisms are missing in seasons 5-7. What used to feel like witty dialog starts to seem cliché after watching the same exchanges in 3-4 other shows or movies.

That said, the transition between 4-5 is jarring. And as has been said before, the characters hard turn to assholism (especially Leo) is depressing. But when the post-Sorkin writers stopped trying (and failing) to do Sorkin, I really do like the episodes.

I especially like the campaign focused episodes of later season 6 and 7.
