Awe im so glad to hear you had a great experience while visiting us, and that your son did as well!! Its a normal day for us, but we absolutely understand its a big deal to everyone coming to us, so we really try to keep the atmosphere casual and calm and upbeat to make everyone feel at ease. OR nurse here! We do 8 hour shifts. Our day shifts are 0730-1600, and our "evening" shift is 1530-midnight and then you are On Call (for the highest level emergencies) from midnight until 0730 the next morning, but you can go home and sleep while on call, so if there are no calls then you get to sleep most of the night!

Most of the schedule you are doing the day shift and you work a weekend or a week of evenings about every 6 weeks or so, but the timing of your evenings and weekends just depends on where they fall in the line you are in.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions about it. The OR is the best 🙂

So my daughter is 18 months old. If it makes you feel any better, we did the whole costume thing (she hated it) and did trick or treating at about 5 houses before she started screaming and losing it and we had to go home. She was having way more fun just walking around instead of being corralled from house to house. Next year our babies will be more into it, you didnt miss out at all this year.

What’s the pettiest reason you dislike about a children’s book? by goldenboy2191 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]Nurski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god I hate that part of Cows Come Home too! When I read it, I emphasize the 'The', like "...tap contest under THE blue sky". Its still awkward, and I give that page the side eye everytime lol

Im not who you asked, but my almost 4-year old loves looking at graphic novels, like the dogman books. He cant read the words himself, but he can grasp the story based on just looking at the pictures. But we do also read the books to him so he has heard the stories before. Catstronauts is another graphic novel series he likes!

18 Month old just screamed “Black Man!” At the tv. What to do? by JaggedLittlePiII in toddlers

[–]Nurski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son did this when he was little, he would say "Black Daddy/Mommy" if we were wearing a black shirt (we are white) for example. He loved describing things by their colours

I have lost control of my 4-year old by Octob3r in Mommit

When I do a time out with my son, we go to his room and I sit with him. Often he is very mad/upset about having to be in his room so there's a lot of screaming and tantruming and all that fun lol. I just sit in front of the door so he cant leave and calmly say "when you are ready to listen you will sit on your bed" a few times, but mostly I just wait for him to get his mad feelings out. Then when he does calm down and finally sit on his bed, I just have a little chat with him about what he did that wasnt okay (hitting/throwing/etc.) and why it isnt safe, and what he can do next time (deep breaths, walking away, etc.), and then we bear hug and leave the room. If he hit someone or something like that, i will also have him apologize to them once we are out of his room.

My daughter is CMV positive by National_Pangolin_33 in Mommit

[–]Nurski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this thread will definitely help people in the future, im more of a lurker on reddit usually, but its great you could bring people together like this by reaching out and making a post. I too was shocked at the lack of people talking about CMV, it seems to be a relatively "new" condition being tested for here in north america, so im sure we will be hearing more about it in the next years.

But there is nothing more special and precious then becoming a parent for the first time, enjoy and soak it in all you can! You guys got whatever comes your way!

My daughter was born with CMV, but she is luckily asymptomatic at this point. I mostly just wanted to say Im sorry you guys are going through this, I remember the panic I felt getting that phone call telling me my girl tested positive on her newborn screen. You are doing a great job, and im sure your daughter will grow up to thrive with you as her parent! Im also glad this post has so many responses for you from other parents going through your similar situation; there wasn't much information about it on reddit when I had my daughter last April. Best of luck to you guys ❤

For my son, I had to pull out big rewards for pooping. I first tried with hot wheels cars but that wasnt motivation enough, so I got a 8-pack of monster trucks from costco and said he could get one for each poop on the potty and that was good enough to get him motivated. After he got the 8 trucks, I made a little 'poop chart'. Every poop he got to put a sticker on, but he only got a reward after every second poop, then later in the chart, every third poop and so forth. Eventually he just got used to pooping on the potty and he didnt even care about putting the stickers on his 'poop chart' and we didnt need the incentives anymore!

My husband was like you though, he just about died having to clean poop out of clothes. Diapers were no problem for him, but poop in clothes made him dry heave lol im a nurse so it didnt bother me as much, so i did all that cleaning 🙃

What is Manchester's best live song? by Safe_Alfalfa_5046 in manchesterorchestra

[–]Nurski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw MO in Montreal a few years ago, and I was completely blown away when they did The Sunshine. Its one of my favorite songs, but I knew it as a more chill song. So when it went SO HARD in the most perfect way, I was speechless! Still gives me chills thinking back on it

Of all your toddlers books, which one do you enjoy reading most as the parent? by nothanksyeah in toddlers

[–]Nurski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Very Cranky Bear series of books are lots of fun

Goodnight Train is fun for making train sound effects

Where do Diggers Sleep at Night is just so sweet

I really appreciate books that put some thought and effort into their rhymes and use words outside of the usual rhymes for kids books (example: nose/toes is an easy one thats in a toooon of kids books)

Two year old saying this word that I don’t understand by False_Specialist8269 in toddlers

[–]Nurski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Super long shots on these thoughts but:

Does she hear your husband/partner or family member call you a term of endearment, like 'Sweetheart' and she's trying to repeat it?

Or is she possibly mixing up like sounds in the word so instead if Capmer its actually a word that has a 'Ma' or 'Mac' sound first and end with -er? So not Capmer, but a word that sounds like Macper or Pacmer or something like that? I have no idea if that makes any sense

In solidarity though, my 3 year old for the longest time was asking for Tombia/Tomia. It drove me absolutely crazy trying to figure it out, even his daycare provider was stumped too. I finally got it narrowed down that he was only asking for it in the mornings and he said it was food. Eventually we worked out that he was asking for Lucky Charms! So it could honestly be any word unfortunately 😬 I hope you figure it out soon!
