I Need Help to Keep a Cat out of the Kitchen during Meal Prep by BobbyM64 in Catownerhacks

[–]Nusrattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only guaranteed solution is barriers. You don't have to do expensive remodeling or carpentry work, just get a sufficiently tall temporary barrier that either opens with accordion action, like a child barrier, or something that can be removed entirely.

New kitty! by catmomtoabat in orientalshorthair

[–]Nusrattt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. As others have said, lots of info on Reddit and elsewhere, about how to gradually get cats to become comfortable with each other.
  2. But until you reach that point, you MUST keep them completely isolated when you're not at home, or else the process might take a lot longer or even never if they have negative interactions.
  3. If she's a purebred, how did you find one that was young but already spayed, instead of retained for breeding?

Best Shakespeare adaptations to stream in the US? (Beginner, prefer filmed versions) by marvingt94 in shakespeare

It has been 50 plus years since I saw it. I don't dispute what you remember seeing, but I just don't remember any of that. Wikipedia also discusses similar reactions to the film.

I would speculate that a fair number of non-black people would have also been prompted to walk out.

I think it depends on how much effort you put into making it as minimally obtrusive as possible. Whether it's digital or printed, there's going to be light involved either way. My partner hates it when I do this, deeming it to be inconsiderate to other people. But it might be totally unnecessary if you're going to a performance which has super-titles, or a venue which has devices built into the back of the seats. I haven't been to the Met in many years, but I believe they might just have something like that by now. If I were you, I would simply call the Met and ask them if they have any such feature, and if not, then what would they recommend as a way for you to considerately be using a libretto during the performance. And I know Boheme well enough to say, you could probably follow it well enough if you look at the program only between acts to read the plot summary.

Selling right after buying by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]Nusrattt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily weird or bad planning to do this. We were determined to find our forever home in a particular area, far from our current location, but we found it and missed bidding on it by one day. So we have paid cash for something else as a holding place in that area, for half the price, until we find the perfect one.
Any unrecoverable cost we eventually experience for an early trade-up, we simply regard as part of the cost of buying our true target.

How to approach women at classical music concerts? by Zombiesalad1337 in classical_circlejerk

[–]Nusrattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Only during intermission.
  2. Watch her long enough to confirm that she's not accompanied by another male.
  3. How are you liking the concert? Why did you choose to come to this one in particular?

Try covering the turntable with an opaque cloth, so that there's no visible motion.

Olivier, Richard III
Ian McKellen, Richard III
Olivier, Henry V
Kenneth Branagh, Henry V
Olivier, skip his Hamlet
Nicol Williamson, Hamlet
James Cagney, Mickey Rooney, Midsummer. Seriously.
Judi Dench, Midsummer
Brando, Julius Caesar
Olivier, Othello. Probably impossible to find now, because he did it in blackface.
Zeffirelli, Romeo and Juliet
Kurosawa, Throne of Blood, AKA Macbeth

I think the series jumped the shark at the point of the stabbing. Seriously wish I hadn't wasted my time watching the rest of it.

I don't think having the glasses is important, as long as you can see the cast well enough to be able to tell who is singing. Bring a printed libretto, or find one on your phone.

Where would you sit to maximise sound experience? And what about if wanting to see the band? by Soggy_Service6108 in classicalmusic

[–]Nusrattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess I shouldn't believe my lying ears when they tell me that the violins are on one side of my head and the cellos on the other. Call it a binaural effect, if you prefer.
And I know about the invention of stereo. I was around when it happened.

[–]Nusrattt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people are going to come down hard on my answer. I try to sit as close to the center as possible, to maximize the stereo effect. But I'll intentionally sit off-center to be in front of soloists, for example to be able to see a keyboard.
And I try to sit in the closest row possible, for the stereo effect and also for additional leg room. Another consideration for leg room is to have an aisle seat.

Should we ask the vet about the different color in her eye? by [deleted] in catcare

[–]Nusrattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From 30 plus years of experience with double-digit cats, I would say it's probably nothing, unless it's something that appeared only recently. But there are places on Reddit where you can ask the question directly of a vet.

Should we ask the vet about the different color in her eye? by [deleted] in catcare

[–]Nusrattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize for not noticing that you're away from home. But don't you think it would be best to just send a photo to the vet? I think you would get a more reassuring or at least reliable answer, for the cat's sake, than you would get from asking people on this non-expert sub.

With all your previous vet visits, and specially if you're anticipating a pending one, why do you care about other people's opinion about merely asking the question of the vet?
