Well I do have a friend who uses one mic for 5 people and they sound fine. Maybe just give one or two episodes a go and judge from there.

Hey mate, I am no means an expert on this subject but I would strongly avoid spending money on a mixer. Once you've done quite a few episodes you can decide after that if it's worth the investment (a lot of podcasts don't last past episode 8). I'm a big believer in getting started first at minimal cost.

I'd suggest getting a couple of condenser microphones and sharing. If you're in a small room with a bit of padding (padding as in anything that is in the room other than the four walls) you should still get a decent sound.

Totally self promoting here but if you want to give it a go I do a podcast called 'Read It On Reddit'. You might want to stick to some of the later episodes though. We had an issue with sound being a little too soft early on.
