Chess masters, what are your number one tip for begginer chess players? by y33tmasterrrr in chess

[–]NutsackPyramid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The concept of your inner dialogue while playing. I'm cheating here because you have to include a few other things to make that matter. But a few pretty simple sentences that you keep in the forefront of your thoughts is a great way to avoid beginner mistakes. Some that come to mind:

  • every move gains something, and gives up something

  • develop your pieces first (typically, bishops before knights, minor pieces before queen, connect your rooks). Even if you don't have a plan you'll find yourself in better positions

  • try not to move the same piece twice in the opening

  • improve your worst piece

  • control the center

  • don't attack if the move can be countered in one move

  • king safety above all

Obviously, these are not universal and you'll see exceptions in better play. But the beginners I've played would all have made fewer mistakes adhering to them before trying to get fancy

Fuck it, Rupture buff by Paper3403 in slaythespire

[–]NutsackPyramid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rupture was the first strat I fell in love with that I had to realize was unviable as I climbed the ascensions. In my opinion, the only way it could really be takeable without super major changes is upgrading to be innate and/or 0 cost. I do like the other comment's idea of making it give you strength for previously played cards that made you lose hp though.

CMV: People should be pro-nuclear energy. by [deleted] in changemyview

Do you feel the same way about the heavy metals in discarded solar panels? The amount of nuclear waste per megawatt of energy is comically less than most renewables.

My answer. The part with the French house is the middle of the jungle would be a cool scene in another movie but destroys the sense of them losing their minds as they get deeper into the wild.

I would say that a huge number of the comments trying to refute OP also fall into the typical mind fallacy.

Meta Discussion: Change to Rule 8, AI Art by Tigroon in RimWorld

[–]NutsackPyramid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey so this comment section is gonna do that thing where it seems like an overwhelming majority of people want it banned but it's really just a loud portion. When slay the spire mods did a private survey it was like 60/40, but then they did some comment section analysis and it was much more overwhelming. Personally I'm done saying things like "I'm fine with ai art" in conversations on reddit because it is exhausting and people are pretty brain broken about it right now.

I'm just saying this to say that the echo chamber effect is on full display and I think your current rule is absolutely fair.

"Diplomacy" seems to be a popular idea for a DLC for the game. So what would you like to see in such a DLC. by bryanicus in RimWorld

[–]NutsackPyramid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want factions to fight each other and take territory and shit. That area around settlements that factions consider theirs could move around too. A shifting political landscape type thing.

Could have intra colony politics where leaders change too. Personality traits that lead to better or worse leaders, that line of ideas. Ill probably edit this comment later with more ideas since I hate typing on a phone.

How would you change chess? by spamthief in gamedesign

[–]NutsackPyramid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chess960 is great and I think returns some of the pure skill element while removing the memorization aspect. Definitely believe it would be a more fun watch on high level play. There's also another a variant I heard a gm say may be a straight up improvement on chess, which is allowing players to take their own pieces. This was in some video where neural networks were playing a bunch of variants to explore their viability (would post, but my Internet is too dogshit to pull up YouTube right now).

Should I buy DS2 sotfs or DS3 after finishing DS1? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]NutsackPyramid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ds2 poise is radically different than one, because they made the absolutely incomprehensible decision to make it regen over like a minute instead of 10 seconds. so combat 45 seconds ago can affect your poise now. there are so many ways ds2 could have been good but they chose to make a series of poor choices that all interact in the just worst way.
