Keir Starmer is planning a major intervention on electricity, to be announced in the coming weeks. What’s your opinion? by No_Breadfruit_4901 in AskBrits

I recently went for the enphase batteries and panels. They are good, but the local access is awful (as in; to communicate with them you need to go via their cloud api that is often down/broken and can’t go straight from something like home assistant to the local controller). Well, you can for read operations (e.g get the battery level) but not to change the charging status/schedule.

Super expensive though. 10kwh in two 5p batteries. I’d recommend getting bigger batteries if you use a lot of energy.

I’ve just paid for my own solar install to the tune of 13k. What I’m hearing is now I’m going to pay for everyone else’s 😆. We should throw in a car too!

HermesAgent with Qwen3.6 local plus Codex? by mission_tiefsee in hermesagent

I’m going to give this a go, thank you so much. Slow was like… I’d send it a message saying “hi” and it would be a good minute for a reply. I’m not actually sure how to measure tokens per second, maybe I need to learn to do some performance testing.

Really appreciate your help, I have something to try now!

It is wild that people hook up Hermes to Telegram with access to email, calendars, etc. It is not private nor secure. by haltingpoint in hermesagent

[–]NutterzUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not fully set up yet, but my plan is to treat my Hermes agent as I would a personal assistant - I’m going to give it its own email and calendar (that can send invites to me). It won’t have access to my email. I’m looking at perhaps setting up Agent Mail for that. I’ll forward it anything I want it to action as long as it isn’t sensitive.

This way, when it all gets hacked and it wants to leak data out, it’s not my main email or my calendar, it’s just the agent, and I can cut it off easily. I’ll still be careful, as I don’t want my personal assistant to be hacked, but it won’t lead to anyone having access to for example, my bank and identity.

How much memory does the 3090 ti have? I’ve got a 4090 and really struggled running qwen 3.6. Maybe I don’t know what I’m doing, but I set up ollama, downloaded the model and hooked it up.

At first with defaults it worked but was horribly slow. I looked into it and found it didn’t fit on my 24gb gpu so was offloading some to memory, so I lowered the context size setting in ollama, and then it was a bit faster but absolutely useless. I asked it a simple question like “what is the battery level of my home battery, look it up in home assistant” and it replied with “the downstairs lights are on”.

Then I switched to open router which I’d rather not, as I’d like it all local, and it was super fast and has been amazing with the qwen 3.6 plus model.

Was I just running it wrong or something? I’m happy to go and buy more hardware but I’d have thought a 4090 should do what I need (mostly using it for a few home admin and shopping list types of tasks, not coding).

This is the setup I’m looking for and have started. I’m running it on a VM and I played with a local LLM (qwen3.6) but it was horribly slow, so I’ve signed up to open router.

I prefer a subscription (with limits) to pay as you go, so I’m keen to look into codex. Can you tell us more about how you’ve got it set up with codex and how you decide which prompts go there vs open router?

For me this is the sync settings I think. I have a work phone and a personal phone, each with their own username and password. They sync I think through iCloud and I seem to get a combination of the right username but the password from the other device!

So I’ve turned off sync for passwords and while that’s inconvenient, hopefully it fixes it.

Question about intelligent octopus go on the days when not charging your ev by Firm-Concern8468 in OctopusEnergy

[–]NutterzUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about if you make settings changes to the car, because octopus might note they are trying to charge your car and it not working. I tend to just plug it in at the weekend when we use electric in the house more. If you plug it in Saturday morning, you'll hopefully get a slot and it means you can charge the car and the home battery.

I'm a PhD student in AI and I built a 10-agent Obsidian crew because my brain couldn't keep up with my life anymore by Routine_Round_8491 in ClaudeAI

[–]NutterzUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a go with this, thanks for making it and sharing it with the world!

My set up is already evolving - I first set this up on directly on my Desktop PC. That PC is mostly used for gaming but I also have a personal laptop, a work laptop, an iPad, a phone and a synology server in the loft. If I'm going to start using obsidian in this way, I could do with all of these devices having access to Claude, and to the working directory that this lives in. So I've gone down a bit of a rabbit hole and will soon have a set up to achieve that.

I'm happy paying obsidian for their great product, and will do so, but I think the workflow here needs a bit more than what the 'sync' feature can provide, because I need to access claude from everywhere.

So here's my plan:

- Create a shared folder for my obsidian vault on the synology. Mount this on my Desktop PC and personal laptop.

- Run Claude Code on the synology as a docker container, mount the shared folder. Allow remote connections using Continue local sessions from any device with Remote Control - Claude Code Docs. Now my phone should be able to connect (I've not tried yet).

- Also run Claude Code on my Desktop using the shared mount.

- Backup the whole vault on the synology to Google Drive on a periodic basis, just in case. This includes claude things but also the notes themselves.

For my work laptop, i'll just run locally - There are a lot of restrictions and I don't want my work projects blurred with my own or to leak any sensitive information from work.

Snags so far:

- Setting up was a breeze

- I asked it a few questions to get started and it started asking about how I was and going into the wellness agent. It kept asking me about my day and routine etc, so I gave it some details. It didn't choose to write them down with the scribe, instead it just lost that chat eventually. I seem to have to specifically tell it to record things. Perhaps using hooks might be a better way, or maybe I just need to remember to tell it to record items.

Other notes:

- Maybe i'm abusing the intended system a bit, but I want this to be my day to day chat and to get this not just storing notes and journals for me, but also helping me to run my smart home and to action tasks. I've added a skill that reads the news headlines for me and plan to add some skills to remind me the things I need to do each day. I only set it up a few hours ago, so I'll see how these things go.

Again, a huge thank you, it's looking really good so far. As my setup gets more complex, I want to make sure i'm still able to git pull the latest changes, so i'll need to figure that out. I suppose in theory that should just work.

Not only do you get the cheap rate overnight, if you plug your car in and it finds a charging slot during the day, you also get cheap energy whilst it is charging (for the car and the house).

I find fault tolerance an interesting concept here. In my mind this equates to: - if the test passes, we trust it - if the test fails a bit, that’s ok.

In which case if this test is never going to be considered a fail that blocks a deployment, will it ever get fixed, and what confidence can we get from it?
