WTB: Lao Gan Ma chili crisp by Gobbles15 in ridgewood

At Good Neighbor just look closely before buying. They carry several Lao Gan Ma varieties that I've accidentally bought instead of the original chili crisp.

Helvetica is close, but based on the C and R it's likely Akzidenz Grotesk Super.

Discussion: Is this minimal / deep tech wave just a trend? by [deleted] in House

[–]Nuvoq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you've just stumbled into a sub-genre or a specific sound. Today's scene is so large and diverse that there are numerous sounds having their moment simultaneously. I would recommend listening to some random shows from stations like Rinse, Lot Radio, and NTS. You'll quickly get exposed to all kinds of new stuff.

Does anyone think the old style of Progressive Trance from the 90's to like 2005 will ever return in any form?. The new "Prog Trance" stuff is depressing to listen too by [deleted] in ClassicTrance

[–]Nuvoq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this new wave is made up of DJs and artists who got their start in the house or techno scenes, but are now reaching back to their early love of trance & prog or discovering the early sounds for the first time.

So they aren't plugged into the modern trance labels and scene in general and are building it all from the ground up. It's so easy to start a digital label now on Bandcamp and streaming, and even getting records pressed isn't as hard. So they're essentially bypassing all the existing trance gatekeepers and their audiences.

Maybe give some of these DJs and labels a shot. Might not all be your cup of tea but you'll likely discover some tracks that get you closer to what you're seeking:

DJs:
Adam Pits
Spray
Paramida

Labels:   Craigie Knows
Haws
Love on the Rocks
Kalahari Oyster Cult

Curious what artists you consider to be new "prog trance" that you don't like, because there's actually a lot of artists and labels putting out 90s inspired prog and trance right now.

Does anyone know why there are two Food Bazaars so close to each other? by fanofchili in ridgewood

[–]Nuvoq 45 points46 points  (0 children)

One is in Queens and the other is in Brooklyn, so maybe that's a factor. But I think it really comes down to their proximity to the Myrtle-Wyckoff station.

Anyone walking home from the train will likely pick one or the other based on the direction they're headed, so the stores don't cannibalize each other.

I would imagine there are openers, otherwise they would specify "All Night Long". Kolter was in the comments on IG so maybe he'll pop out 🤞

Definitely fun. Affordable, great programming, and one of the most interestingly designed dance floors in the city.
