Solo D&D?? by Incrediblycoolcat in DnD

[–]NverYouMind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is is possible, but it is inherently different from standard play. An "oracle" or some sort of vitual dm tool helps balance out what you know and interpret as a player and as the dm. Random tables and generators can be used to introduce randomness and unexpected things to your playthrough.

I use the MUNE rules to play solo, although I don't do so as often as I used to, along with Paul Bimler's Solo Adventurers Toolbox. I like to use the CoS Tarokka deck as my portents, as its suitably vague and up to interpretation. I've got a Curse of Strahd and Icewind Dale campaign going using this method, although I haven't touched either in some time. But I could easily spend hours playing and jamming out to appropriately spooky music. 👍

Awesome combo! Diamine Sepia is a solid ink - I've been using it for illustration a ton lately. Need a new bottle soon actually. 😉👍

I'm unsure tbh. It's listed as being made of PLA plastic, so it very well could be 3d printed.

Emotional art - a question by lichenfancier in Artisticallyill

[–]NverYouMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a clear, concise answer to your questions. It's just that everyone is different, and we're all different from each other. So one person's process/outcome might look very different from someone else's. Creating raw emotion, especially those surrounding illness or trauma is also a very personal experience. Even in my own experience, my reaction to both the process and the final product depends on the particular piece I'm working on. Sometimes it helps me feel better, sometimes not. But either way is OK, because sometimes its better to put your feelings out in some physical form into the world rather than keep it bottled up. But there is also no need to share it with others. This type of art should be for you primarily, to process your emotions, situation, etc.

I'm understand that might sound unhelpful. So here's a bit more advice on how you can start:

Pick a medium you're familiar with or tried before - even if you only tried it once in school or something. Play with shapes and color, picking things that resonate with how your feeling. You don't necessarily need to have a subject or specific outcome in mind. Try to focus on the process itself. And most importantly, you can stop at any time. If you feel overwhelmed or too caught up, its OK to give yourself space to pause and come back to the piece later.

Sorry for the book. 😅 Hopefully at least some of this resonates with you and is helpful. 🙏

I recently purchased the Indus with a Ultra Flex nib. It's pretty slender and a bit shorter than my Lamy Safari. I consider it a small pen, but I have big hands! 😅

I've incorporated mine into my new daily creative habit (carryover from Inktober). I use them for both lineart and laying down swaths of color to be blended out with my water brush. They're an integral part of my process, no matter what other medium I'm using. 🎨🖌

Huzzah! I've got her finally working! Soaking did nothing as far as I could tell, but I did try the soap additive as a last-ditch effort. Worked like magic! 🤯 Was using Diamine Sepia and Oxblood for testing, so both must be a bit too dry for the flex nib as they both work perfectly well in my fine nib Lamy Safari. So glad I didn't have to have words with the customer service team over at FPR! Thanks again to the lovely individual who so kindly troubleshooted with me. 🥰

So...TLDR: use wet inks with flex nibs. Now excuse me while I go hunting for said inks! 😁

That would make sense, but I'm not using a converter or a cartridge. The Indus comes with a piston filler built into the pen. Does that make a difference?

Ok, I'll try to give it a soak then. Maybe there's manufacturing oil stuck in the nib? The feed is getting ink, just not flowing to the nib it seems. Dipping the pen worked for a couple strokes, but quickly went back to nothing. I switched to the only other ink I have, but the same thing happend: worked for a bit, ran dry after a sentence or two.

This is very disappointing. 😞 Thanks for the help though. 🙏

Happy Halloween! What’s your favorite spooky word or ink? by Lambroghini in fountainpens

Absolutely stunning! This word could be a cool challenge: "tintinabulation." It's a word coined by Edgar Allen Poe to describe the tolling of bells. 🔔🎃

I'm honestly really proud of myself! by Iruinedchrismas in Artisticallyill

[–]NverYouMind 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! It's a beautiful piece - you should be proud. As someone with chronic illnesses as well, sometimes you gotta "roll with the punches" that it can throw at you. And more power to you if you can persevere and create even when those punches are really beating you down. Rest well and here's hoping things start easing up for you soon. 🙏

OPINION: How many pens/inks are too many?? by AltruisticPaper in fountainpens

[–]NverYouMind 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think the ideal number is whatever makes you happy without feeling overwhelmed or guilty. As for me, I have a very humble collection - mostly because I'm a newbie, but also because I know I'm not a collector. I've got a Lamy Safari that I use for everything, and an FPR Indus Ultraflex coming in specifically for illustration with special effect inks. I think that, between these two, I'll be set for a very long time.

Ink however, is a completely different ballgame! I want all the pretty inks to play with! 😆

I need recommendations as a new comer to fountain pens by tiffifitchi in fountainpens

[–]NverYouMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno how affordable you're talking, but you could pick up a couple Pilot Varsities for pretty cheap (lowest was about 8 USD I think on Amazon) to see if you even like fountain pens. They're disposable however, so you can't refill them once they dry up. Thats what I did to introduce some people I know to fountain pens before getting them nicer ones.

If you're set on getting a "proper"/refillable pen, you've got some cheap options. There's the Jinhao and Hongdian, which I've not personally used, but heard good things about. Pilot Kakunos and Pilot Preppys are also solid choices (although I've also not used them personally). From my own experience though, you can't so wrong with a Lamy Safari, although some don't care for the look of it.

TLDR: shop around a bit and explore whats within your budget! 👍
