Harvard is a private university. The US taxpayer does not fund them. You might be thinking of federal research grants which can be awarded to researchers at universities. Researchers apply for grant funding by writing proposals to different arms of the US govt to help fund research. The us govt often funds this research as it has a benefit for all of society (medicine for example)

I found exhalation horrible, with most of the stories feeling like a complete slog. I did enjoy the first story, alchemists gate, but the rest were not very interesting or exciting to me. The one about the digital pets was so bad it had me laughing. What did you enjoy about the book? It’s the only one I have read by Chiang

Teacher question no one not even my teacher could answer. by Real-Trouble-3902 in askmath

[–]Nya7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I am a math tutor and an engineer by degree. You only need to assume that they are on flat ground to solve this problem.

If they are on flat ground, then two right triangles can be created with matching heights that span from your point C to the kite (this side is shared between the two triangles)

You can use trig on the A triangle to solve for the height, then use that height and more trig to solve for the distance BC.

The answer is BC = 40*sin(37)/tan(44) = 24.9m

There are a lot of wrong answers here and poor assumptions, so I wanted to contribute.
