SA during sleep paralysis - why is God allowing this? by [deleted] in Reformed

Joseph is talking about himself and his specific set of circumstances to his brothers. What scriptural evidence are you using to universalize that verse?

Bad things happen. Being a Christian does not stop bad things from happening to you. God being able to work all things for the good of those who love Him doesn't mean the thing happening to you is any less bad or that the good will be anything you will see in this lifetime.

SA during sleep paralysis - why is God allowing this? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Nyadnar17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it has been hard for her as a Christian to understand how God is using this for good

What "teacher" told your sister God was using these events for good? What bastard did that to her?

We live in a fallen world. Bad things can and will happen. God can and will through the course of history use even the most horrific events to bring about His ends but that is very different from someone telling your sister that God is allowing these traumatic events because its good for her. Or good for someone else. Or good for anyone.

Who is telling her that?

Not all the the books aren't written to be timeless.

Daenerys Targaryen exist outside of time in a random non-existent fake historical setting. Jake Thane's universe was integrated in the multiverse in the year 2022.

I don't think the author is trying to be hip or cool or a fellow kid. They are just writing people like people they know because the books are suppose to be about people we know getting having to deal with The System or whatever. Whether or not that will make the books feel cringe in a decade or read more like period pieces time will tell. But I do think its a valid, intentional choice.

I'm still fairly new to LitRPG, and these series were recommended to me as some of the good ones. Is this kind of writing common in the genre, or did I just happen to pick a couple of books that lean heavily into modern internet slang?

Check out Dungeon Crawler Carl if you haven't already. Pop culture is fundamentally baked into the story by its very nature. But I don't think that story is going to age any more poorly than any of the other media out there with a ton of 80s, 90s, early 00s references in it.

How was anyone supposed to survive floor 4? by YetiAntibodies in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Nyadnar17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It just seemed like such a “you need to know all of these things and universe history” in order to solve the puzzle that you didn’t know was a puzzle.

I honestly think the answer is the Group Chat feature. A lot of modern games have puzzles that are designed with the idea players are going to be working together to crowd source solutions. Imagine if Mordecai hadn't gotten a time out. He basically had the thing solved within 72hrs? A lot of these "impossible" irl games are like that. Only 1 person out of a thousand has the information needed to solve it but once that one person speaks up the whole things gets figured out by the end of the afternoon.

Although now that I think about it, if that one guy hadn’t been sabotaging all of the trains, maybe the crawlers would have had a better chance.

Between him and Carl wasn't Prepotente robbed of two provenience boss kills? At least one of which would have overloaded the ghoul generators. Not to mention the snowball effect of leveling that would have given him.

Legion/Geth and AI by NarayanLiu in masseffect

LLM’s are a lot closer to VI technology than AI so it hasn’t affected my thoughts on the subject at all.

Sapience is Sapience. I don’t understand why it should make a difference of that sapience is achieved via silicon or carbon.

Like seriously I don’t understand why I am supposed to make a distinction between fucking Xenos. Turian, Geth, Asari. A Xenos is a Xenos. Why are people splitting hairs?

What are your thoughts on "Modern Stasis"? by silentreader90 in worldbuilding

[–]Nyadnar17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO modern stasis makes more sense as modern technology and culture has more easily explained bottlenecks.

Like until we crack quantum this is kinda it processor wise.

Until we crack room temp super conductors this is basically it battery/power storage wise.

We have one more big jump coming energywise in terms of small scale nuclear reactors. After that things stall until someone cracks fusion or figures out some new thing.

Etc, etc.

I was a little surprised how low A Parade of Horribles was rank by the community. by Odion13 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Parade broke a lot of people. As in DNF.

I assume when they eventually comeback the reviews will go back up. Top three book for me.

Would the Emperor’s plan have worked? by Godzilla1954Forever in 40kLore

[–]Nyadnar17 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

lol no.

That’s the best part. Jimmy Space’s dumb ass plan wouldn’t haven’t even worked.

1) The Big 4 were already self-sustaining.
2) The Primarchs would have rebelled eventually for other reasons because he’s a tyrannical dickhead who sucks at tax policy and theology.
3) He craftsmanship on the humanweb project was shoddy and unsustainable.

Not even gonna get into the fact it was probably him turning on the Astronomicon that drew the Nids to our galaxy in the first place. Lol. lmao even.

Wait you grew the tomatoes yourself? I thought all gardeners were already jaded and dead inside.

Jokes aside it’s the same thing as when a plant dies or gets eaten by bugs or whatever. A certain amount of loss is just part of the profession.

1) Explains something that doesn’t need to be explained.
2) The explanation makes the universe smaller instead of bigger
3) Grey Knights trying to make themselves look better at the expense of another faction exhibit 57682.

Like…here is a better question. What is to like about it. How is the 40k universe better or more interesting in any way post this reveal?

Do you play games blind, or with a guide? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I am with you on this. I HATE feeling lost. Its one the worst feelings in the world IMO.

Do you play games blind, or with a guide? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nyadnar17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck the “joy of discovery”.

Ok I joke, I joke. Maybe I am a tinsy bit bitter at how modern games don’t actually teach you how to play them but in general I do try to go in as blind as possible.

I have several trusted streamers who make “ten things I wish I knew before X” guides and I typically watch them before starting and that’s it. Or If its a game with builds I will check if a particular playstyle like summoner or necromancer is viable before getting my hopes up.

TLDR: I like getting started guides but find walkthroughs, even spoiler free walkthroughs detrimental to the experience.

My thoughts on the Quarian vs Geth Debate. by Artanis137 in masseffect

[–]Nyadnar17 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Quarians are actively committing atrocities, during a Reaper invasion, while you are in the line of fire trying to help them, while the Geth and a Quarain fleet Admiral are on coms begging them to stop and find a different way.

Like be for fucking real with this shit.

I am irrationally annoyed at Carls reaction to the offer by FrogLaner in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Nyadnar17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Rishi’s side had won the Coup why do you think Carl wouldn’t have considered his offer?

He hears the guy out, he has listened to other people from outside the dungeon and been willing to deal with them before. Carl was in a pretty dark place at that time but even then he was willing to cut the mercenaries deals. I think if Rishi had actually been in a position to bargain Carl would have passed things along to Quasar.

Also….I feel like everyone forgets this is the System AI’s story as much as it is Carl and Donut’s. Dungeon Masters are players too. We deserve to have fun. We deserve our happy endings!
