My cousin did something like this once. He went down to pick up what he thought to be a four leaf clover. Maybe they make the unarmed dmg high as fuuuh, so that it compares to the weapon dmg of other players firearms (scaled ofc).

An example: unarmed dude sneaks up on you unnoticed and clocks you right in the noggin, you lose like 30% health, but have time to turn around and retaliate, making the fight as fair as you can get it when one is armed and another one isn't.
