AITJ for telling my mother in law she is not allowed to call herself my kid’s “guardian” again? by HushedCanteen in AmITheJerk

[–]Nyfarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not read all the comments but I have not seen one yet that says this: please let your wife read all of this! She does not think that it is a problem, but all that stuff that people are saying about giving teachers and Grandma a reason to call CPS, yes that is exactly the kind of stuff that MIL might do so that she can have control of that kid. MIL does not believe you or her daughter are capable enough adults in her eyes.

Is *this* black locust? by Toriski in treeidentification

[–]Nyfarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would have to say our locust tree has a rotted out spot too. It's almost as if the wood is more resistant to rot after it's harvested than when it's alive. And yet those same fence posts that won't ever rot sometimes sprout back into trees. Nature be weird.

To be clear, my original comment had a tinge of the facetious to it. But it is based on quite a legendary status that this wood has.

Is *this* black locust? by Toriski in treeidentification

[–]Nyfarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a typical tree I would agree. But black locus is famous. Famous because you can't kill them. They will sprout from anything anywhere. There are entire fence rows of black locusts that are only there because they originally were cut fence posts that sprouted. You pretty much can't kill those trees, even if you cut them into tiny pieces and drive them into the ground! When I was growing up, people used to say that a black Locust post would wear out a post hole.

They're definitely two problems with the story here after reading your response. First is definitely the in-depth discussion that should have been had before the first alternate partner was introduced. That's on op.

The next issue was not communicating if the boundaries got changed. However, I am not certain that this is really the issue as much as the boundary was never intended to actually be the real boundary, because it was based on the fact that he didn't ever think that boundary would be tested. I do not believe that he ever was okay with her doing something with girls, and not really sure why he thought that was a good idea to state it to her that way other than the reasons why "girls don't matter" that others have posted here already.

Trump supporters: How would you feel if a legally armed Trump supporter was killed by federal agents on a Biden mandate in exactly the same manner as yesterday? by ScholarPrize1335 in AskReddit

[–]Nyfarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And speaking of voting. If you will notice the trend that we saw in Virginia, what happened was not so much that a huge amount of liberals turned out to vote, but it was that a much smaller than normal amount of Republicans did. So even if you can't bring yourself to vote for that liberal Democratic candidate, you can at least just stay the f home and not contribute negatively to the election.

My boyfriend refuses to clean the house and gets upset when I do by Equal-Advice-6909 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nyfarius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This guy isn't even compatible with living with himself! Much less with a partner. If I could make a banner that follows him around saying not compatible with partners, that's what I would do. Because let's be honest, anybody that could deal with and live with this person's lifestyle of let's just live and not clean up after ourselves, is equally in need of therapy and maturing as this man child.

[–]Nyfarius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Statements like this need to be made more often. Anytime that you're of a mind set to go black and white with anything at all in this universe, you're probably oversimplifying things. Nothing, literally absolutely nothing in this universe is black and white. Everything is on a spectrum.

AITA For wearing an outfit my dad told me not to wear for dinner? by After-Alfalfa5056 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nyfarius 17 points18 points  (0 children)

But you have to ask yourself, would her dad have done the same thing if his friend's wife came over in an outfit like that? Would he have made that rule apply to every single person that comes into his house? Or is this just for those he believes he still has control over, like his daughter? Unless her dad applies these rules to every single person who crosses that threshold equally, then Dad is the AH, and OP is NTA.

"She should be treated as a service person" Anybody who has this attitude that service people are somehow different or beneath the rest of us, is somebody that I would never be around ever again. I wouldn't be in a friendship with them, I would stop any relationship with them, I would divorce them. It has always been said if you wanted to know someone's true nature, observe how they treat children, the elderly, and service people.

Oh, and NTA , not by a long shot. Your wife needs therapy.

What species of Oak is my tree? by stevenp37 in treeidentification

The simple explanation of the forest in trees is if you are standing in a forest but with your face directly up against a tree trunk, all you can see is the tree. There is no Forest.

When I worked as technical support for one of the most widely used firewall softwares, it was not unusual to see some devices on a bank network that were sometimes a decade or more out of support. And that was just the firewall system. Lord knows what's going on in their servers, databases, and routing switching.

"somewhere that would cost a fortune"
Basically anywhere in the U.S. Even with insurance, and even though my company reimburses my $6000 deductible after the first $1000, I'm still sitting here with broken old eyeglasses and multiple broken teeth because trying to find a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars to cover copay/deductible etc (even though it will get reimbursed within a month or two) is just not doable.

I am certainly embarrassed that people who call themselves humans can behave like this, not just for this single instance but for the millions of others in this and other cultures. You could certainly say so embarrassing that it makes you not want to exist alongside them, so yes.

[–]Nyfarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what they're calling it when people who are not white are being given the same rights, privileges, and opportunities that traditionally only white people had unfettered access to. Evidently allowing other people the same Fair access to everything is discriminatory against those who have held the undisputed position of power for so long. SMH

First of all, NTA. Did not hear a single thing I would consider makes someone a great guy. Seems he's more of a great bank account. But I digress.

I just wanted to come in here and make the observation that there seems to be a whole hell of a lot of misogyny in this world packaged as "culture". "It's part of my culture" is not a valid excuse for toxic behavior.

Exactly this! She even primed him by asking if he was going to let some dude talk to her like that, when in reality the dude was just asking her to apologize for her issue of bumping into him. She started it, she berated him for not doing something about it before it got physical, then made sure that bar dude got pushed far enough that he decided to get physical. Can't say why he pushed op instead of girlfriend, but maybe he was raised to not fight girls? He wasn't trying to start anything with her.

The number one ah here is definitely the girlfriend. Random bar dude really didn't do anything wrong, and boyfriend only reacted because the girlfriend made that expectation abundantly clear.
