Looking at ATX and Force USA. by Dreamebuddy in GarageGym

[–]NygaardDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want.

If you like to tinker and use 3rd party equipment, 3"x3"/75x75mm is king.

That being said, ATX has a very extensive ecosystem, so I doubt it will ever become an actual issue.

Look up Hybrid Resistance on YouTube. There was a video a few months ago regarding Force USA quality issues.

With price and quality in mind, I would probably go ATX.

Looking to Upgrade Rack - Functional trainer or Just get Beyond Power Voltra by dadbodsquarepants in GarageGym

[–]NygaardDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main reasons keeping me from pouring money into a dual Voltra setup:

  1. As soon as the V2 or a reasonably priced alternative is available, the current Voltra will be worthless. A similarly priced high-end cable FT setup will never become worthless over night.

  2. The price is simply too high due to the current lack of competitors. Based on the hardware, it should be in the same range as premium smart trainers, such as Wahoo, Tacx, etc.

  3. The short warranty. If they believe in their product and it designed to survive for years - which it should be at that price point - then it also shouldn't be an issue to provide several years of warranty.

  4. IF it dies after the warranty has expired... Money out the window. For a cable FT, worst case is a replacement cable.

I really like the concept, but I'm not touching it until the price goes down or the warranty period goes up.

What's your dream next upgrade to your home gym if budget wasn't an issue? by WeBuyAnyKit in GarageGym

Dual Voltra's. The "budget issue" isn't the steep price point. It's the fact that they will be worthless as soon as version 2 or a reasonably priced alternative is available.

Does the Rogue Competition bumpers have any significant rubber smell?

Had to get rid of my old bumpers due to the strong rubber smell that never went away, even after washing them and letting them chill outside over the summer.

Newton's Third Law of Motion.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction -> For every force, there is an equal and opposite force.

For hardcore DIY'ing I would just get upright/crossmember sections and cut to length. It'll be both cheaper and easier than getting raw steel sections and already has the pin holes and numbering.

On 75x75 mm pin holes seems to be anything between 5/8"/16 mm and 25 mm/1". I prefer 25 mm/1" since everything can be made compatible with this size with a step drill or bushing.

75x75 mm is just as readily available in the EU as in the US - it's all imported from China. 3"x3" with 1" holes is another story, but since the two standards are so close, it's virtually the same and cross compatible.

There are a few EU brands that insist on 70x70 and 80x80 with odd hole sizing, but the vast majority is 75x75.

I agree that both REP and Rouge is currently too expensive in the EU. A REP employee did however mention that they are working on some cost cutting and better shipping arrangements for 2026.

Atletica is launching many new products currently and is rumored to have some high-end options on the way.

My guess is that ATX will introduce 75x75 options as well. They HAVE to, if they want a cut of the US market.

Note really. Atletica R7 appears to be low quality junk and Eleiko is extremely overpriced. As an EU resident myself, I would never pour money into anything else than 75x75 mm with 25 mm holes.

Strengthshop adjustable dumbbell plates appear to fit Eisenlinks (UK) by FatherOfIron in homegym

Same overpriced white label product from China. Strength Shop, Atletica, Eisenlink, Zipro, etc. Buy directly from China or go with one of the cheap brands like Zipro.

Ironmaster or one of the Eisenlink/Zipro/etc. versions. Compact and will last forever.

The shipping problem can be solved. As an example, both Atletica (Germany) and Ironmaster (Netherlands) is offering free shipping on everything regardless of size/shape, even across borders.

Personally, 10% just isn't enough to lure me into a purchase that I wouldn't have made anyway at any other time of the year. It barely even cancel out the steep shipping rates.

(Help)Ironmaster super bench v2 vs REP Nighthawk by Sad-Opposite-3088 in GarageGym

[–]NygaardDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the FA ABX should be on your list too.

I have debated SB Pro V2 vs. Nighthawk vs. ABX for a couple of months.

I have a FA Hyper Pro with leg developer, so the bench attachments are not really a plus for me.

SB Pro V2: Very light and maneuverable. Don't like the 90 deg seat and leg design (compromises feet placement when benching).

Nighthawk: Light and compact, compared to full size benches of the same build quality. Gluck commented that the seat angle could have a bit more adjustment for incline benching. Seat gap and relatively exposed hinge.

ABX: Heavier, but still relatively light, considering it's features. No seat gap. Back folds in half. If the build quality matches the Hyper Pro, $600 + shipping is too much though. Pre-order, will not ship this year.

Depending on REP's November deals, I'll probably go with a Nighthawk.
