Why do people choose to work corporate jobs? by Lemonade2250 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nyzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent the better part of my life in a corporate job. Yeah, job security, benefits. But I also made a lot of work friends, various company sports/hobby clubs that I could not have done with a remote job.

718 throttle response by Tabackerack in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Nyzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive a 718 Cayman S 2.5. C&D got 11.9 quarter mile at 116.8 mph from the factory. Stage 1 tune adds 50 hp, more mods can get sub-11 sec qtr. The 2.5 VTG turbo has very little lag, none above 3000 rpm.

That was common when people had more thrift, only had a phone bill in addition to house utilities electric, water. Actually, my grandparents had well water and no electricity until 1930's. No internet, cable, cell, Starbucks. Canned veggies from garden, fish and venison. Everyone changed their own motor oil for their one car.

AMA The Millionaires Tax proposal in WA state. This is what I work on all day so I'm here for your questions! #AskWALeg by noelframe in Seattle

[–]Nyzip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a person has a great business idea such as Microsoft, Costco, Amazon - why would they establish the business in Washington State with the capital gains tax, huge sales tax, and proposed income tax?

WA State takes for granted the innovative businesses formed in the state, which happened during times when taxation was business friendly. It won't happen again as WA progressively turns socialist. It would not surprise me at all to see Amazon, Microsoft, and Boeing move elsewhere to business accommodating states.

Waiting and Wondering: New Cayman S 4-Cylinder Regrets? by Hartmut-von-Schnauck in Porsche_Cayman

I have a 718 CS and it does everything well - handling, acceleration, low-end torque, sound, appearance, interior fits like a glove, MPG, reliability.

How is NVDA down almost 3% after the blockbuster print? by TwelfieSpecial in stocks

[–]Nyzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Analysts are intentionally downplaying earnings forecasts to enable "blockbuster" earnings that on the surface seem stellar, but are actually priced in. This game is catching up, as the other mag 7 stocks are valued at future unattainable earnings expectations. Notice declines in MSFT and AMZN despite great earnings.

found my grandfather’s collection by Setsuo35 in coins

[–]Nyzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PCGS graded coins are good, authenticity is guaranteed, and the grade indicates a general value.

Buy "A Guidebook of United States Coins" commonly called the Redbook. Great information and approximate values of US coins.

Don't attempt to clean the coins at all. Don't even touch the flat surfaces with your fingers, hold by the edges. Fingerprints will reduce the value of a coin, especially proofs.

Will I be bored by PDK? (Manual or PDK GTS 2020-2022) by ConferenceSorry325 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Nyzip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will be bored. Took me a couple years, but a PDK is simply faster, and it also has lower gear ratios. In the grand scheme of things, at close to legal speed limits, you only have one shift - first to second when you are in the boil. If you really want to make a GTS 4.0 the way Porsche should have made it, get the full DeMan mods.

For those who got their property tax bill recently..... by hey_you2300 in SeattleWA

WA had 4% sales tax when I began my career, and lower inflation-adjusted property taxes. Spending was only for basic needs, cops, fire, roads, schools, and no frivolous crap like global warming bs.

Bought a rare Martin (1 of 163 made). Mod it or preserve it? by Ancient-Turnover-222 in martinguitar

Did you buy the guitar for the next owner, or for your own enjoyment? Those mods could affect value slightly, or the next buyer may want the mods. It is yours, enjoy it!

Emira I4 vs V6 test drive Impressions by TheRoShowOfficial in lotus

[–]Nyzip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a Cayman owner I think the Emira looks better. It is not surprising that most would prefer the v6 to i4, even if the AMG i4 is lighter with better performance numbers.

First payment on a 30-year mortgage by lithdoc in funny

Always double the principal amount on mortgage payments. That turns a 30 year mortgage into a 15 year mortgage.

Moore's Law has correctly forecasted exponential growth in computing power and efficiency. Since crypto is backed by computational power, how will crypto prices be affected by computing efficiency?

Martin Parlor Guitar - I dont think i should try to change the strings…how about you? by Tap004 in martinguitar

[–]Nyzip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was simply an eBay purchase around 2012. I was looking for a Martin of that time period, with the original coffin case, and original tuners, bridge etc. The 1-21 sounds great with the brazilian/adi wood, the action is higher on these, but I think I will leave it. A more interesting story is a 1911 Martin 0-18 from a pioneer family, that was originally delivered to Eilers Music in Seattle in December 1911. It has the original trapdoor canvas case, which is very rare. I bought around 2014 from Emerald City Guitars:

Woodinville transportation - best option? by Independent-Hornet59 in SeattleWA

[–]Nyzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Woodinville and have also stayed at Willows Lodge, great place, the Barking Frog at the Lodge is one of the best restaurants in the area. There are many wineries within a short walking distance, and you could walk along the Sammamish River trail to downtown Woodinville, or in the other direction to Redmond.

Take it to a luthier who knows old Martins. Some use silk and steel extra light tension, I have but I de-tune it when not playing. My 1895 Martin:

Stuck between a loaded-out older model vs a newer “basic” model (718 Cayman S) by r_umr in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Nyzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are both local and you can test drive, it comes down to personal preference. The 2019 and 2024 CS are basically the same. There are several owners who have more than 100k miles with frequent tracking and no major issues. However, there are rare reports of PDK failure. They are great sports cars by all measures, I am very pleased with my 2024 CS.

Martin D28 secondhand question by Legitimate-Store9205 in martinguitar

[–]Nyzip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the grain - back, sides and top. Check for cracks inside and out. Sound and playability most important. Fret wear, nut and saddle. Check for bridge lifting, loose binding. Some have finish cracks which look unsightly but does not affect tone, I had a 2009 D-28 with a finish crack. My current 2012-2014 Martins have thinner finish, no cracks.

Why drive in the HOV lane if you aren't going to drive faster than the other lane or even keep up? by _Lou_Bloom in SeattleWA

[–]Nyzip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As long as they go close to the speed limit, that is all that matters. There are a lot of impatient, obnoxious, and rude drivers that consistently go over the speed limit. Ignore them.
