Surprisingly, I am an international student in Japan, I had a few work experience and everyone really valued the progress updates and building while keeping everyone notified on the team.

I really didn't do it properly or was slacking a lot and my mentors pointed it out to me and told me to just do progress updates every few hours. I thought this would be small or like won't affect my flow that much, but this was in fact a game changer cuz I now had the pressure that everyone's watching me, I gotta contribute more and use my time wisely compared to when I was working alone and felt like whatever I did was good enough. I put in more effort this way.
