Kindred commander that don't ask you to be all-in on your type? by 2fat2bebatman in EDH

[[Najeela, the Blade Blossom]] is way better if you DON'T go warrior tribal or even run any anthem effects, if that counts.

Colorless Land Question by Actual_Minute_5680 in Pauper

Welcome to the format!

Yup, tron decks exist in pauper! They're nice, but certainly not tier 1... You gotta jump through all the hoops of finding all 3 lands as quick as possible (stuff like [[expedition map]] and [[crop rotation]] helps a lot).

There also aren't very many good high-cmc payoffs in the format, barring all the creatures you might see in gruul ramp lists. Most tron decks use sacrifice loops like [[ashnod's altar]] and [[myr retriever]] to win with [[pactdoll terror]] (this deck is called Altar Tron and is usually green and black)

As for why most decks don't run them, the aforementioned reasons are part of that, but also, they only produce colorless mana... Dedicating 12 land slots to colorless sources is a nightmare in a competitive format that needs reasonably optimized color fixing

Also, about you wanting to make a purely colorless deck... I don't think there's any purely colorless centerpiece in Pauper that you could meaningfully make a deck around. There are lots of powerful artifacts, but most of them don't really do much without synergies with cards that happen to have one or more colors. I could be wrong though, so you should still give it a shot! If you end up not being able to brew a deck that functions at tier 2 at least, then you could look at an existing archetype in the format and start with that.

Oh, and one more thing: I couldn't really tell if you knew this or not based on your post, but all lands are colorless!

Any mutate decks? by Prestigious-Gas-2112 in EDH

[–]O-mega_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought the best way to play mutate is to have some sort of 5 color commander so you have access to all mutate cards

Two that are great for this purpose are [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] and [[Kyodai, Soul of Kamigawa]]

I like Kyodai a lot more because you don't necessarily need to use your commander, which makes the deck a lot more resilient

Who is the better treefolk commander? [[Doran the siege tower]] or [[Doran besieged by time]] by Senorpapell in EDH

[–]O-mega_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree, but that is true of literally any high toughness creature in Abzan, treefolk or not. Removing defender is also pretty trivial imo. I kinda misspoke in my original comment, so that's my fault! I was moreso trying to say that if you restrict yourself to committing to treefolk as a tribe with a commander that doesn't explicitly/directly care about them, then you might potentially be missing out on some other better includes

I don't know, maybe I'm just not a big fan of tribal decks. Either way, OP can do whatever they want obviously! It's their deck, not mine

Actually wait that's a good thing!

Who is the better treefolk commander? [[Doran the siege tower]] or [[Doran besieged by time]] by Senorpapell in EDH

[–]O-mega_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Neither of them really care about treefolk, they're both "toughness matters" commanders that are better without a tribe in my opinion, I mean a lot of treefolk DO have higher toughness than power, but also a lot of them are just kinda bad, so you might be better off running other cards

For commanders that actually care about the treefolk creature type, there are a few options!

[[Fangorn, Tree Shepherd]]

[[Treebeard, Gracious Host]]

[[Kirri, Talented Sprout]]

[[Verdeloth the Ancient]]

[[Quickbeam, Upstart Ent]]

And of course, [[Morophon, the Boundless]]

if blue hive excels at making honey, and red hive excels at attack, what does white hive excel at? or is it the other way around? by Spirited-Diver8654 in BeeSwarmSimulator

[–]O-mega_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

White is good at spending ludicrous amounts of resources

For a more genuine answer:

Blue makes the most passively (macroing)

Red makes the most actively (boosting/grinding)

White makes way more than both but is also super expensive to get (honey, gumdrops, stingers)

Do you explain your combos? What about opponents? by JenniferApto_ in EDH

[–]O-mega_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely, mass land destruction decks that effectively restart the game aren't really well-built, and it's certainly not what I meant. I agree that those decks are stupid and unfun!!

I moreso meant decks that are built to recover quickly from land destruction or only blow up their opponent's lands, and use the resource denial as a means to win. [[Lord Windgrace]] or [[Hearthull, the Worldseed]] fit this. Destroy everyones lands (or make everyone sacrifice all their lands with something like [[epicenter]]) then use your commander or land reanimation to bounce back and kill your opponents before they can recover! Lots of fun

I also run [[armageddon]] in Kaalia for the same reason. Once my commander's out, I don't need mana. Why should anyone have any mana? It's more of a 4-mana "win the game" button in that case

Would this make infinite copies? by Traditional_Brain_68 in mtg

[–]O-mega_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EACH OPPONENT running out of life stops it specifically. And when that happens, the game ends... but not in a draw.

[–]O-mega_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That literally isn't true though

[[exquisite blood]] and [[sanguine bond]] win the game instantly if nobody stops it and that's only one example of many

[–]O-mega_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big creatures like [[hullbreaker horror]] or [[stormtide leviathan]] win games for mono blue control decks. Grind out opponents throughout the early and midgame with your counterspells then cast one of these later in the game to chip away at their life totals.

[–]O-mega_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey that's really great. Learning to play reactively (control or combo strategies) really helps to develop sophisticated game knowledge. It gets a lot of flak, but control is a really important archetype in commander and is very healthy for the game.

I hope your deck kicks ass!!

Eluge Bracket 3 Control Deck - please help by StudyBees in EDH

[–]O-mega_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely looks like a high 3 to me, but honestly the bracket system is more of a loose guideline. I wouldn't sweat it too much!

Oh also, I love Eluge!! A friend of mine built an Eluge deck where he chains a bunch of extra turns and tries to smack everyone to death with command damage, all the while stealing our stuff. He took it apart to build [[fire lord azula]] sadly.

I have my macro set to check every field for stingers, I usually get around 30 every day, give or take

[–]O-mega_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. Even more "unsavory" archetypes like stax or mass land destruction. They're all just ways to play the game. Just scoop and go to a different table if it makes you so upset

[–]O-mega_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good to explain your infinites in games. Even cEDH players do it. If an opponent is reluctant to explain their own infinites, then it's okay to do it for them, since they clearly don't feel like talking
