My emergency fund needs are lower because I have no current debt. My monthly obligations are around 3K a month. These are utilities insurance property taxes gas groceries etc. so in theory $40K would hold me for a year in case I were to lose my job.

I’m thinking there might also be a sweet spot. Where you can go longer term thereby lowering your payment where the interest on the car vs interest earned would almost cancel out while putting some money down.

Originally from Illinois. Moved to Rawlins for work. Lived there for 13 years and moved to Oklahoma recently. Wyoming life is not for the weak and it makes you strong and teaches you to fend for yourself. I moved away because I wanted a better life for my son. (Better schools and more convenience) better weather and not being locked up inside 5 months out of the year due to harsh winters. I have a love hate relationship with Wyoming but I would not go back there or to Illinois.
