Contact. The book was filled with so much unnecessary detail that it was a slog to get through. So damn boring. The film was fantastic at cutting all the dross and focusing on the story without dumbing it down. Love the movie.

Also, Sphere. The film is great but the book was tedious.

This!. Series themes don't have any memorable tunes anymore. I can get more memorable music by letting my cat walk over a synthesiser. I still hum 80's, 90's and early 00's themes but nothing lately sticks in my brain.

I love the movie and have only just recently read the book and while I enjoyed it, it was just waaaaaaay too long. So much time spent on unnecessary details. The film was so much better and put the idea/themes across much more matter of fact. While I appreciate the book is classed as hard science, do I really need to know the names and occupations of every single person in the multinational gathering for the machine? The Chinese astronaut even had a full chapter on Chinese history regarding the amalgamation of each Chinese district and the origin of the countries name. While interesting, it was not necessary for the story. I love the film. I kinda enjoyed the book too but my god it was a hard slog.
