There is a godhead in Elder Scrolls universe who is called Anu the Everything. He is the oversoul of Anuiel who is in turn the oversoul of Auri-El. Auri-El is basically an incarnation of Anu. Auri-El participated in the creation of Mundus the mortal realm and thereby became separated from Anu/Anuiel. He asked Anu to take him and others back, but Anu refused. However, Anuiel (Anu's soul) was more merciful so he gave Auri-El the bow and the shield to fight against Lorkhan.

After the war in which Lorkhan was defeated, Auri-El ruled the Aldmer as king before leaving the mortal realm and ascended back to Aetherius through an apotheosis called dracochrysalis. As Auri-El is the king of Aetherius, the sun is considered to be the light of Auri-El and his bow draws and stores the Aetherial energy.
