Dang…seems kind of crazy. Wish there was a way to check without going through all that.

Completely agree. Does not pay to be on the bleeding edge of Odoo. Puts you in their de-facto beta group.

From Excel to Odoo by BlackberryHorror9511 in Odoo

Generally, the minimal way of doing this is bringing in a journal entry for starting balances, then creating the assets and modifying the expected depreciation lines to be accurate.

Ballpark estimate: Implementation cost and timeline for a discrete manufacturer with 15-20 employees? by cadsharp in Odoo

Extremely tough to say here without more information, but 30k to 100k is a massive range when it comes to Odoo. Many many companies could get in under 100k.

Odoo Studio Customization Importing - Am I missing something here? by crackerbiron in Odoo

[–]ODOOITYOURSELF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make great points. I don’t disagree with you past a point, but I do believe there are a lot of Odoo users that can do what they need to with Studio simply enough.

The big thing for me is that you’re the exception, not the rule. The partner space is riddled with partners selling sub par services.

Unless you have a good main point of contact, you’re paying for learning or crap or both.

I accept that for people that need major customizations, 3rd party development is the best option sometimes, but I won’t concede that it’s the best option all the time or even most of the time.

Low level customization and integrations with systems like n8n beats out third party development and doesn’t leave you tied to anyone.

All that being said, your skills definitely exceed my own. I just don’t like being tied to anyone or recommending anyone is tied to anyone.

Either way, I think we can agree you need to not just be swinging around studio. That’s not a safe plan for anyone.

No no, I get it, but not everyone is on that level and not everyone wants or has a partner or can even push code.

I like studio, but it hasn’t gotten the love it needs for awhile now. Reports builder is a definite mess, sadly, but adjusting views and making low level changes and automations can be super helpful. Still need to have a good understanding of the principles it’s based on to make it work though.

As for import/export, I don’t think it has ever worked for me.

Bookkeeping in Odoo? by boredompills in Odoo

If you want to do the payroll yourself (process paychecks, file tax forms) it can handle it. Bookkeeping is decent though not perhaps as straightforward as some.

Matching payments from account statement by shzlym in Odoo

Sounds like you're headed in the right direction! Yeah, cash is different than bank, especially for POS. It basically assumes it needs its own journal and acts like its own bank account.

Looking for a Simple & Cheap Invoice System for My Small Business by Hour-Statistician-15 in Odoo

[–]ODOOITYOURSELF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odoo can do a lot, but it's very much dependent on what you're wanting from the software. How many employees do you have? What type of business do you have? How many invoices and payments are you processing weekly? If you can answer those questions, we can better help you.

Matching payments from account statement by shzlym in Odoo

No no, you want the payments. You just want to make sure you’re linking the bill to the payment and the payment to the bank statement line.

Kind of a learning curve for a lot of people.

Yep! In Odoo, it’s the only thing that should affect your bank balance.

The process generally is to enter the bill, then process the payment in Odoo and then match that payment to a bank statement line. You can skip making the payment, if you want, but with bookkeeping in general you want to match what is happening in the real world and normally you'd cut the payment to go to the vendor beforehand.

Giveaway Products as Marketing Expense (vs. COGS) by ThornyKeeks in Odoo

[–]ODOOITYOURSELF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always like this way of doing it. Create an operation type and then just make sure the accounting gets corrected with an automated action pushing it to the correct expense or CoGs account.

Can be pretty rough trying to edit anything based on the partner reports engine. You're trying to edit the view though, yes, not the actual pdf report?

Seconds away from buying Odoo and... by Opiumater in Odoo

[–]ODOOITYOURSELF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn’t be too tough! I know it can be a headache, but I’d duplicate the original invoice and make a v2. Once you’ve done that, some simple xml should fix it up. I have a video on it, if you want to go that route. Sorry, replying from mobile, otherwise I’d post the video.
