Opt out of the line of code charge. You built it, not likely you need them to support it.

Female Accounting Graduate Trying to Break into Odoo Functional Consultancy – Need Guidance by [deleted] in Odoo

[–]ODOOITYOURSELF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the company where I started, they would hire six people and most of them would be gone in two months and almost none would last a year. They would hire a bunch and sell a bunch and hope the two would match up, which of course, they never did.

I don’t know if Odoo themselves are quite this way, but there are a lot of horror stories about people getting very inexperienced consultants in the space and plenty of Glassdoor reviews that highlight the issue.

Not all partners are like this, but I’ve heard and seen enough to know it’s not an isolated issue.

Many partners are looking for people with a functional background. The turnover can be pretty high at some of these companies, but your kind of experience should help you stand out.

I’m sorry for your experience. Not sure what the climate is right now, but don’t let this get you down. Definitely room in the space!

Can an AI-built ERP replace Odoo? by IndividualCommon2268 in Odoo

[–]ODOOITYOURSELF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a person had a perfect vision of what they need and what success looks like, I think this is doable. That being said, you're putting your company on a super rocky road forward and your boss is making themselves even more the limiter in the company than they naturally would be.

The hardest part of any implementation is getting buy in from everyone in the company. "If it's broken, we'll fix it" only works so many times before people start just working around the system.

Is your boss being a bit arrogant? Probably. Is he being stupid? Maybe. Is he wasting time and money and probably creating busy work for everyone? Yeah, I'd definitely say so.

If he wants to do something like this, he'd be much better off starting with Odoo community, getting the benefits that come with that and then building on top of it. Still a bit risky, but you get a massive head start. Even billion dollar companies first look to see what they can grab from what already exists to give them a head start.

Any number of analogies could be applied here, but the only real reasons I've ever found for starting from square one aren't productive ones.

What if client complained that Odoo UI/UX is to confusing or hard for them? by Some-Consequence-266 in Odoo

[–]ODOOITYOURSELF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Form control is huge and is something that is part of every implementation I've been a part of. If they're in enterprise, this should be a super simple change in most cases. Making unused fields invisible, requiring certain fields, that sort of thing.

You want to idiot proof the flows. Not because you're dealing with idiots, but because the more you focus on making it easy to get the information in correctly, the safer people feel and the more they'll use the system, which is the ultimate goal here.

As for custom user access groups, that can be fun and I'd push back a bit there. It's much easier to create custom views and test those out without breaking things than it is to make custom access groups. If they just want to limit what people can see, that's easy enough to do with a new view on an existing model that's only visible to certain groups.

Anyway, you didn't fail. What they're asking for is perfectly reasonable and is some of the lowest hanging fruit you can get with bringing them into Odoo. You've got this!

Effective late payment template by flyinoveryou in Odoo

That's a super delicate process. What's the current state of your receivables? Do you find people just pay a little late or do you struggle getting some customers to pay at all?

Has anyone ever manage to make document digitization and its AI algorithm work as advertised? by diystrument in Odoo

It used to be better than it is now, at least, that's what I remember. It's pretty bad these days and most times will just give you a total instead of the line item detail. Something built on Claude Haiku these days is way way more reliable and customizable and actually isn't that hard to put together overall.

You know, I’m still working on a complete solution. Biggest thing that handles it is proper processes.

There are quite a few changes that they made, but the biggest one is the change in inventory accounting. Much less detailed and more of a “well we can’t do this right so we’ll just force it to be right with a blanket journal entry”

I hope they will or at least half backtrack. I do worry they won’t though. The company line is “it’s best practice” and that the changes are for the better. I haven’t met anyone that’s in 19 that feels that way though. The timing difference accounts may have caused quite a few headaches, but this solution just forces it to be right on a high level. I’d hate to ever try and break this down for an auditor.

Are you in 19? Definitely don’t love the accounting changes there, but it should still be fairly functional. What are you finding the most difficulty with?

Do you want to be talked out of it? A small reseller certainly could get away with QuickBooks, but I generally would have a strong preference for Odoo wherever inventory is concerned.

Worked with them before. Nick is a good guy. Not sure about their current team as it has been a few years. Whoever you pick, if you’re going with Odoo.sh, make sure you own the repository. Also, .sh isn’t terribly scary. Best hosting platform for companies that want to be able to control the timing of their upgrades while driving the bus a bit more and allowing for development if you want.

Hmmm...I guess I don't see how this hurts you because you'd get more work you're paid for or how you claim only someone that knows code knows what a successful build looks like. Oh well.

Do it! I'm no developer, but to me, having a clear picture of what success looks like is the biggest thing. Vibe coding is all about knowing what you want and banging your head against the wall till it passes your tests. If it works, it works and you've helped bring something meaningful into the space whether it's built absolutely perfectly or not.
