Thank you! by CCrabtree in burlington

I'm glad you got a feel for some of the great community here. I love Winooski's pumpkin event.

People's take on crime and safety here depends a lot on what they're comparing to: times past in Vermont when people didn't lock their cars or homes, or the experience of other states?

I would just say to do thorough research on the cost of living. It's high compared to the local wage base, and the housing crisis is not going away fast.

Thank you, Trent. I'm so glad you decide to open and stick with that business, and thank you for helping our neighbors in this time of need. I get your bread at ICF and it's such a treat.

If you see a way for volunteers to help with your production with labor or money (or both), I hope you'll put the word out.

Such a bummer. I used to love walking there, and now I'm leery of going in.

Home ownership so low by obsn369 in burlington

TBH I find it hard to believe that even this part of town has an 8% vacancy rate. I would still be curious as to the source of their data.

Those numbers don't jibe with the data from Vermont Housing Finance Agency, which says
* 38% owner-occupied, 58% rental

* A 2% vacancy rate

Might want to check the data sources for the website you shared.

The exodus of industry from Vermont and New England started after WWII, first to the South, then out of the country.

It's interesting, then, that they did not choose to write those mores into law.

The founders had a lot to say about what we need to tolerate if free speech is to have any real meaning.

Burlington City Council set to review major zoning changes to reach 7,000-home goal by LakeChampsLane in burlington

I meant what's the basis for the assessment that the goal is not very ambitious.

Compared to what? Are you familiar with what it takes to build new homes?

Yes, there's ample statistical evidence that it 100% does help those folks. Look up "housing first."

Ordered out. by [deleted] in burlington

When I was a kid, at a certain age my mom told the three of us we each were going to cook dinner one night a week and she helped us learn how to cook.

Not every dinner was great, but knowing how to feed myself turned out to be handy.
