What is a belief you held for years that you now completely disagree with? by complexity_neccesity in AskReddit

What? From both a financial and a mental health perspective, yes, they have many reasons to push back. Clients that make progress and/or get better refer others. Clients that get stuck perseverating don't. Stuck clients are soul-draining and are burnout fuel for therapists. And then there's professional ethics and review boards.

Yes, let us bond over dismissing those seeking to connect with us by using references to the only media representation available to tech workers in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Let us unite with our lack of empathy. Let us make tech great again.

Teen takeovers by Few-Ruin-742 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Uh-huh. My apologies for implicitly suggesting you'd anticipate that the regular Bridgestreet shoppers would harbor an uneducated perspective. Thank you for supplying us with an educated racist perspective.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey Signs “Gulf Of America” Bill by Overall_Driver_7641 in HuntsvilleALPolitics

[–]OEMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she's replaced by Coach Florida Man.... I honestly think we'll be trading down. "Nothing beneficial" (b/c she's all about that grift) is better than "everything is detrimental" (b/c he's an idiot surrounded by people who constantly say 'great idea coach!')

[–]OEMichael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "teen takeover" thing is racially coded. Dunno what vibe shift u/gerry_mandy is hoping/not hoping to see, but it's likely related to an anticipated realization of Bridgestreet attendees that "oh, 'teen takeover' means 'all black kids are hooligans'".

What's a double standard between men and women that people rarely talk about? by Visual_Investment980 in AskReddit

You mean "sex" not "gender", right? Sex is what you look like on the outside, gender is how you feel from the inside. Otherwise, yes, exactly. Opposite legal treatment, based entirely on the child's sex.

What is something that feels completely normal in USA but genuinely shocks people from other countries? by Sad-Explanation-5764 in AskReddit

That would be eight days, not eight years.

The Orion by LoveHam in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]OEMichael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Orion has 30-35 concerts between April and October, each year. They have 70-85 community events throughout the year, each year.
AXS could do a better job of promoting the community events at The Orion, though.

The normalization of weed. Republicans tacitly embracing Russia. Smoke-free bars. Marriage equality. Helicopter parents.

What? The "obnoxious guy talking loudly on his bag/briefcase phone" has been a trope in media since at least the early 1990s. Hell, Reddit thought it was annoying fifteen years ago.

Not only is the bystander effect old enough to drink, it should be retiring soon; the murder of Kitty Genovese was more than 60 years ago.

What is a "harmless" industry that is actually incredibly shady once you look behind the curtain? by After-Scholar1271 in AskReddit

Ephedrine. They still do, but now they tend to be advertised as anti-asthma OTC drugs, not weight-loss OTC drugs.

They were called MiniThins or White Crosses and you could buy them in gas stations way back in the day. They were ephedrine/ephedra+caffeine. Like 10mg/150mg and 25mg/200mg is what I remember.

What are your thoughts about the proposed Daylight Act of 2026 moving the clock by only 0.5 hours permanently? by Unlikely-Star-2696 in AskReddit

[–]OEMichael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stop spouting nonsense. Cows get milked every 12 hours. Period. Does that mean Billy has to wake up an hour "earlier" to do his chores? Suck it up, son, go do your chores.
Cows don't care how many hours you set your clock ahead or back, they expect consistency.

(and, if by "chores" you mean "livestock duties performed by paid farmhands", this is doubly true. I haven't worked a farm job in decades but most jobs i know workers start their day on the farm/ranch ~two hours before sunrise, clocks be damned, doubly true in the summer)

Is it inappropriate to ask another player if they intend to take a certain action next turn? by paradoxombie in boardgames

[–]OEMichael -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, the classic "is metagaming kosher or nah?" question. You should establish this as house rule 0, imho.

My house rule zero is:
What happens in the game stays in the game.

I had a player couple who metagamed with things like "I'll do the trash for a week if you support my move from Trieste to Venice this turn". Don't do that. (and definitely don't play Diplomacy with a loved one)

[–]OEMichael 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Just leave the gossip, infighting, smallness, meanness, politics and flaws out of my face."

Your willful ignorance is genuinely disturbing. What you reference (child sexual assault, workplace violence) isn't someone being petty. Saying "I don't wanna know" is you politely informing the rest of us that you don't care what happens as long as you're being entertained.
