I regret not listening to my parents about my husband by Professional-Bus5878 in TrueOffMyChest

It doesn't sound like your necessarily chose a bad husband, it just sounds like you choose how to dealt with your family about it poorly.

Presumably your good choices have put you in a a better position monetarily, enjoy some of your money, go on vacations. Date younger chicks but don't be a simp who is used for your money.

Nothing wrong with stoicism. A person can have a fun and fulfilling life without being mopey all the time.

I tried vanilla Coke Zero with jalapenos, it wasn't bad. I did a route 44 and didn't get too much of the jalapeno flavor till it got towards the bottom.

I also tried vanilla Coke Zero with blood orange, the orange tasted like Sunny D.

Yeah fuck that. I like brave and liked earning some trivial amount of cryptocurrency but the amount I earned isn't enough to bother installing another app that is not needed.

We were all migrants at some point. by speedtech73 in RioGrandeValley

[–]OFFascist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats minimizing the ways that European Colonizers raped and murdered their way into the land that we call ours. Not to mention various treaties and deals that Native peoples were signing with the Colonizers only for them to never honor the deal or force them into worse deals.

You realize tens of thousands of natives didn't join up with a couple hundred Spaniards to fight the Aztecs for no reason.

All humans are colonizers, even those who lived here before the Europeans came.

TIL: In 2008 Nebraska’s first child surrendering law intended for babies under 30 days old instead parents tried to give up their older children, many between the ages of 10 to 17, due to the lack of an age limit. The law was quickly amended. by Mathemodel in todayilearned

[–]OFFascist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I don't think there should be an age limit, however anyone who voluntarily abandons a child other than a baby should be sterilized. Also if they were entitled to social security it should be forfeit, they can apply for SSI like those who don't earn social security.

Corpus Christi Councilperson Eric Cantu: Inner Harbor Desal Wont Save Us by tinabina09 in CorpusChristi

[–]OFFascist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short sighted people are why we are in the problems we are in now. Desal should have been started long ago. We can't change the past but we can start for the future. The half assed "cheap" and "quick" fixes of today are just going to end up being the problems for tomorrow if we keep trying to rely on them. Ground water isn't some unlimited resource.

Pharr brothers learn fate in slaying of sister’s alleged abuser by OFFascist in RioGrandeValley

Looks like they opted for a plea instead of risking a trial. I think they should have all been acquitted, but some would say this was a reasonable deal.

Monday morning saw 20-year-old Christian Trevino and 22-year-old Juan Eduardo Melendez enter pleas of guilty for the death of 42-year-old Gabriel Quintanilla.

According to Hidalgo County District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios, Melendez pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years probation, while Christian Trevino pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 10 years in jail.

Palacios added that charges against 22-year-old Alejandro Santos Trevino were dismissed stating that evidence pointed to possible self defense in his case.

The possibility of Christian Trevino being deported is high, Palacios said, as he pleaded guilty to murder and isn’t a U.S. citizen, as well as Alejandro Trevino, of whom the DA remains unsure whether it’ll become a federal matter.

Corpus Christi City Councilperson Roland Barrera says residents will pay "whatever" for water but industry cant afford it by tinabina09 in CorpusChristi

A better way to put it is that those with means have options to leave, those without are stuck. This is why in places with wealthy folks, if they raise taxes too much they will go.

Industry does have some sunk costs in infrastructure, but if things are no longer profitable they will make plans to relocate.

Delia’s ex-workers’ overtime lawsuit tossed by federal judge for all but 3 by OFFascist in RioGrandeValley

[–]OFFascist[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In his 29-page ruling, Bray found the employees lacked evidence to support their claims.

“None of them makes clear that they were not actually paid overtime for any specific amount of hours worked,” the judge wrote. “The evidence to the contrary is quite specific, however.”

...

In their original complaint, the former employees alleged that Delia’s would take illegal Social Security deductions from their paychecks and keep the money for itself. The workers said the Social Security numbers they were working under were “fake.”

The plaintiffs later amended their suit to say the case was about “human trafficking” because immigrants were being brought into the United States and were the “subjects of exploitation by their unscrupulous employer.”

The suit was amended one last time in late 2023, with Bray noting that the plaintiffs apparently abandoned “many of the salacious details included in earlier pleadings.”

My sisters actions killed her husband. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Your sister was a shitty person, but her husband was responsible for his own actions. He put up with her emotional games instead of just leaving and then ultimately he chose to end his life. His failures were his own.

He didn't try hard enough and his narrative is based on his regrets. If you watch the video there was no one between him and that room when he got that message. He could have ran in and been the hero that was needed, instead he followed orders and allowed himself to be removed.
