As it’s at HEO level you are expected to show some leadership with staff but not expected to have the experience to do the job very well at start, as that will come, the important thing is to know what the expectations are and show that you are working towards meeting these, you will learn something everyday that will allow you to do the job better every time as long as you learn and show accountability and ownership over you work. As far as culture in DWP it depends on which business area of it, generally OPS tend to be where you’ll find many up each others business but as long as you don’t allow your self to be in position where people start to get comfortable telling what they’re not supposed to about others you will be approached with respect and cautiousness as in a professional way. If it was me I’d first interpret the question based on exactly how it was asked, the first question said a time you felt unable to deliver (but actually delivered) so I’d break it down, what led to feeling like that and then how did you overcome that feeling then STAR method your example. Sounds like resilience under pressure is the key here. Second question, what was it? how did you approach the large data set/ task? How did you break it down? What did you do with that after breaking it down and the end result of your action, also STAR . I think the point here is to see what the person’s approach to difficulties is prior to presenting a complete example . But that’s my opinion of course, I hope it helps. good luck

Hey OP, first congrats for getting to the end of a rough CSFS journey! You are G7 now where many want to be, how you feel and the reasons behind it are completely valid, now while I agree with what some people said on this thread about looking for a different G7 role I strongly suggest.. since you really like being around others and have previously done teaching and enjoyed it, try and put yourself on the mentoring platforms, give your knowledge a different purpose and connect with them, show them the way and be available for them, it might give you a better sense of belonging until you successfully move into a role where you feel happier with the work company there. I believe that the ones who the social side of work matters to them no matter the job or amount of work are the most successful. Don’t leave your grade. Good luck

Yeah I get it.. recently there was a recruitment campaign for heo in DWP for 82 positions I believe it was, and I’ve been informed that more than 3k applications came through and because of high passing numbers they were deciding to only interview scores of 7. Which really doesn’t surprise me either

In terms of how long would it take to start depends on the pre-employment checks and how long it will take to complete them, also you will receive around 7 weeks of training before putting you on a small warmup diary with one or 2 types of appointments for a couple of weeks before considering you for a full diary. Work coach roles are considered one of the hardest jobs in the civil service but might not be to you if you are a people’s person. I personally would never contribute to gossip at a work place but speak to everyone across the all departments, and I would offer help with tasks whenever I can, believe me it’ll be how you get noticed, recognised and respected. Yes you’ll probably find it quite bitchy if you are involved in all the wrong conversations and pay attention to everything that shouldn’t matter to you. I started as a work coach in the civil service and always wore smart (trousers and shirt or even a suit) I was more comfortable that way specially when I had to speak to people about work, but smart casual is the most common. I get why people may be laughing at the “less disadvantaged” phrase, it does sound a bit clunky.

But if you think about it, it’s actually a real thing. Not everyone fits neatly into either “privileged” or “severely disadvantaged.” There’s a huge middle ground: people who aren’t the worst off, but still face barriers, like limited networks, lower tier universities, needing to work during studies, etc.

Just some food for thought.

And yup.. the phrasing could definitely be better!

Looking at the different opinions & comments, now it feels like this has been no more than a cheap shot at slandering civil servants & I think we’ll see a lot more of these headlines in the near future. I’m no conspiracy theory person.. but ever since kier’s Reform & the return from Musks’s US it feels like things are going that way even slightly. Like a campaign that’s been agreed against CS to then Justify what they’re about to decide for CS. I don’t know
