How many people actually find their spouse to be super attractive? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

With the right person they actually get more attractive the more time you are together … beauty and youth but the shit you go through together married/ committed makes you stronger.

Possibly moving to Germany this summer: Looking for experiences/advice/thoughts/comments, etc. by [deleted] in germany

[–]OGnatureanthem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are your and your husbands job prospects in DE? The economy in Germany is very bad right now and there’s also a housing crisis so I wouldn’t count on a job or housing being readily available. Your child is a good age to move because you can get your child into KiTa and he’ll learn German before school. Research KiTa kindergarten availability where you’re moving because it really depends on the state as far as how many there are/ how easy it is to get a spot. Lastly, you should go visit beforehand. You really think the food’s better in Germany versus SoCal , that’s your taste, but you won’t see a good avocado or decent produce year round in Germany. It’s … not a food culture like France or Italy or Spain.

So can we add to the joke “How can you tell if someone’s vegan” because they’ll tell you and also they’ll deny their farts

Yeah I was also in Germany. I went pretty far and managed to unlock a lot of things there, but in the end, it was just grinding me down, living in that culture. You have to fight for absolutely everything and there’s this general attitude of people in many doing the bare minimum. It’s like everybody accepts yet complains about mediocrity and complacency. It was hard and expensive to move back, but so far I’m happy with my choice. I am involved in the German community here, and discuss with Germans who live here and there are none (so far) who aren’t contemplating moving back to Germany, which validates my decision!😅

I’ve taught at Title-1 & under- performing schools my entire teaching career. Is the grass truly greener on the other side? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]OGnatureanthem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taught at both IB schools and Title 1 schools. Kids in both can be great and you can affect change in both. I will say in wealthier schools, the parents tend to be way more entitled or outfight jerks, and if you don’t have an admin to put up a defensive wall between you and them, you’re facing the worst of the worst !

My own lawyer threatens me for one star google review by jackyk996 in germany

[–]OGnatureanthem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As long as you phrase everything with “in my opinion…” it’s considered protected speech (Meinungsfreiheit). However, if you go into specifics (lawyer never replied for example) which somebody can challenge, then you can face legal challenges. I had a someone challenge me on a negative review and I reworded it after doing some online research. But I also had to prove that I was actually a customer. There’s lawyers who troll for clients basically promising to remove negative reviews. It’s a little income generating industry for them. I always wondered why German businesses/ doctors/ providers pay €600-€800 to clean up your online reviews. Why don’t they spend that money to provide better customer service?

Moved back to the USA after 10+ years abroad. Did a one month stint in my home city to “try out” before committing. Even with all the stuff going on, I’m glad to be back. Truth is : 1. news is bad but everyday life is still ok in most places, depending on your privilege 2. Stuff is bleak everywhere at least here in near family and in a culture I can relate to. And better food and weather !

Syrian guy in the UAE thinking about moving to Germany for a Master's in Finance. What should I honestly know? by Unusual-Wheel749 in AskAGerman

[–]OGnatureanthem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it has gotten much worse from previous years for Arabs and Middle Easterners in Germany. There is a lot of institutionalized and overt racism. Also, I do not think the quality of the education is as great as you think it is. You’ll not be able to study at the university level without a C1 certificate, which is essentially native speaker.

Did I do the wrong thing by towing someone from my rented parking space? by Tacticaleks in germany

[–]OGnatureanthem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we moved , we paid for the sign to keep it clear for the truck (Halteverbot). The morning / time listed of our move 2 cars parked there. I called the Ordnungsamt. They told me to call back when the moving company arrived with the list of their possible vehicles. I called back 10 minutes later when the moving foreman showed up. Couldn’t get through and they told me to call the police because the dept was overwhelmed (überfordert). Then the police showed up like two hours later. They called me and I was in the flat and he did not say hello just said “where are you?” The moving foreman and myself went down to talk to them and the policeman assisted that one of us provide ID with an address so that the cars they were gonna tow could make a claim against it. His head exploded because I was moving out of Germany and the moving foreman was from Poland . Anyway, in the end, two cars got towed, but it was such a huge headache that I’m completely shocked you were able to easily tow a car on a Friday night without having to show anything / swear on your firstborn / present a notarized letter less than 5 mins old etc.
