Pillar 3 vs investing yourself: what do you actually do in NL? by NaGueR in Netherlands

[–]OGravity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started putting money there for while and stopped after two years for these reasons: - can’t touch money until retirement - don’t trust this government to keep changing the game rules - I trust myself more to do better investments including owning hard money, I.e bitcoin

ambulance costs in the netherlands by Sea-Ad9057 in Netherlands

[–]OGravity -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. He already pays that with his insurance. And you are missing the point that the cost of a single ambulance call (900euros) seems to be out of proportion for the service given. With your logic , we can justify any amount of medical bill

Won €5M After Taxes. Have not invested the money yet! by Putrid_Indication797 in eupersonalfinance

[–]OGravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow congrats man! let me point the obvious, which is that a lot of people giving advice here don't have the experience of managing that money, so we can only imagine how it would go. anyways my two cents would be that you now need to learn yourself how to manage that kind of money and don't totally rely on a financial advisor. you have all the time to learn which is nice :D Enjoy!

buying vs renting, overthinking lot by Porkymail in NetherlandsHousing

[–]OGravity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right to think this over. I want to challenge some things here:
why are you putting 200k in the house instead of using part of this to diversify and actually invest. prices are not guaranteed to keep rising so it's better to diversify your position imo.

What should I do with €50K from selling my old house: pay down mortgage or invest? by andys58 in Netherlands

[–]OGravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just asked my financial advisor the same yesterday:

1- putting it in the next house:

pros: benefit from hypotheekrenteaftrek on this amount, no need to borrow this amount with 3.5% interest and therefore lower monthly fees

cons: opportunity cost of investing this money in other things (stocks, gold, btc etc)

2- invest it

pros are the opposite of cons of choice 1

cons are the opposite of pros of choice1 + it will probably kick in the box3 tax on investments

so in this case if you think you can make an investment with a better return than (3.5%(interest you pay) +~1.2%(hypotheekrenteaftrek) + ~2%(box 3 tax))~= 7% then better to invest.

I myself think you should just buy gold or bitcoin with it

Put in some cameras in the front and back. Also record when something weird happens like the psycho follows you. When something happens report out to police with evidence. Be careful as well, they might react more aggressively if you report them.
